If you simply deleted the partition without formatting it, it
might be possible for you to recover it.

Check that out. Make sure that you don't touch the partition
table unnecessarily. 

The basic method is to use partition magic on the HDD. The
deleted partition should show up as "unallocated" or something
like that. Just make it a ext2 partition or something and don't
format it (click on don't format or whatever) and
it should work. If you don't have the ext2 format in PM, make it anything
else, get a copy of the Gnu/Linux fdisk and use it to change
the type.
