I require only SQL connectivity as I am administering
a SQL Server which can be done through Linux very
well.
I wanted Linux for every official thing as in my free
time I can explore it do some programming as there are
excellent tools in Linux and learn something new. At
present I have to reboot my machine which takes a lot
of time as I am using a HCL Infiniti 2000
BL(Pentium/400 Mhz, 32 MB RAM etc) which is quite old.

In Linux most of the time I will be in console and
hence will get a faster speed plus since the entire
office is M$ based network, worms and virus attacks
are quite common which will not be the case in LInux.

And the biggest of all advantages is that since in my
division I know comparitively good bit of linux,
people will not be pocking in my machine for internet
access etc. And I will be saving saving some time on
reinstallation as in the paast two months I have
already reinstalled my machine twice inspite of the
fact that I have Mcafee loaded with always the latest
updates.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Regards.
