You are welcome. The reason it worked is that Linux (and other unices) have concept of runlevels. Meaning different services get started at different runlevels. The idea behind this is that admins can choose to boot up their system into a particular run level to do system maintenance. Take the case of a complete backup of the system. It makes sense to boot up the system into single user mode (i.e. no other user can log in partially because networking has still not come up at this runlevel) and do a backup confident that users are not mucking about with your precious files. > Have a nice coffee remembering me ! /me has a virtual coffee.
