Yeah - there is a licensing problem with pine. Its license I believe is
not compatible with Debian Free Software Guidelines, since it places
restrictions on the other software distributed along with it.

Of course. ssmtp is a really simple and small program. Install it as
/usr/local/bin/sendmail, and set sendmail's path to that in your mailer
(mutt/pine).
