Santanu,

       Most console based folk are hardcore  types  who would
not compromise frills for power computing. Having a  seperate
MTA, MDA, MUA is definitely much more flexible, and  folks on
emacs/ mutt etc would not settle for less.

       There is a small  MUA  called  mmr (My Mailer) by  Sam 
Lantinga which I tried about a year ago. It would be possible
to add a POP module and a SMTP module to it. The TODO list of
Sam (at that stage) included a SMTP module ... don't know the 
current status. Can check it out.
