Just found a way to authenticate to the SMTP server from someone on the
comp.mail.pine newsgroup. I could do this by putting
the name of the smtp server in this form :
------------------------------
smtp.server.name/user=UserID
------------------------------
However, one has to type in the password each time one sends a mail :-(
