Your statement is a bit weird to say the least.

Debian and Slackware are cheap.  Where do they have "buggy software"
installed on them?

And if you keep up to date with the patches / updated packages the
distro vendor rolls out you are quite safe.

That, and not leaving unnecessary open ports / unused services running.
