hi,

Most operating systems support empty files while some
don't

eg:

In ms-dos copy con file followed by a control Z
does not create a file since it is empty.

The ms-dos edit file(editor) creates empty files may
be because it has a save option in the options.

In *nix both the cat and vi allows empty files to be
created.

I wonder what is the need for creating empty files in
the first place.we need files when we need to store
data, other wise what is the use.
if it was an email account you would like to make an
empty registeration ,even if he doesnot use it since
some body else can register his name.
how ever in the case of ordinary files,we alone and
always have access and read-write-execute privelages
over our files. why do we need an option to create
empty files. It is certainly an option of the OS but
what is the need for it?

Thank You.
Regards Sarath.
