I'm using Redhat Linux 9 for some time now on two of the P-IIIs each having 128MB RAM. However, Mozilla doesn't respond to clicks on buttons on HTML forms, and Galeon in some cases freezes on every connection request. Also, the entire system is DOG-Slow on both the PCs despite shutting off every daemon except the vital ones.
Can anybody please give some hint on why does this happen and what are the remedies if any? Seemingly, Redhat has royally screwed its distro (not talking about the AS/etc) version 8 upwards. Even depressing few keys in any GUI editor takes 100% of CPU as shown in the System-Monitor and the HDD grinds and grinds for no apparent reason. Will a recompilation of kernel (any patches suggested?) and GCC help?
Regards, Shantanu
