I really wish I had gentoo but don't have BW at home and disk space at work. but if you compile everything with -fPIC and prelink the things, it would be blazingly fast. Idiotically Qt on slack is no prelinkable since it is not compiled with -fPIC. But rest of KDE is. I managed to reduce startup time of konqueror from 330ms to 280ms just by prelinking KDE binaries..
