You are facing permission problems. Change the owner to root and change
the permissions of the files you create so that all are allowed to read
and write them. Now, you will have no problem with opening files by
MS-Excel. But then you must export from KSpread as *.xls files. Earlier,
I faced problems with KSpread, but gnumeric was faster and export/import
of .xls files was flawless.
