Question. When testing the sites, you must be doing that from desktops which in turn use this machine as the DNS right? In that case, you do not need to be concerned with resolv.conf. Clients use this machine as the DNS and those queries have nothing to do with the local resolver which uses resolv.conf. I might be wrong if I did not understand your setup properly.
