Let me guess, Redhat linux?  In such situations, it's important to
mention which distribution and version they're using, because each
distro has their own way of handling this.

If it is RedHat, then you'll find everything you need in
/etc/sysconfig/networking

I think you've got to look under the devices directory in there.  For
each device that is activated, there's a set of files that are copied to
/etc.  /etc/resolv.conf is one of them, and the rule states that is has
to be symlinked to /etc/ppp....

To get rid of this easily, bring up the ppp interface, then remove the
symlink, then bring down the ppp interface.  I think this should work,
but it's been so long since I've had to deal with this that I don't
remember.
