Right now the *bsd devel teams are quite flexible / open


The thing is, they are conservative, preferring stability and security to support for the latest and greatest hardware and such.

So, bsds make great servers (and fairly decent desktops too, if you aren't running some bleeding-edge hardware, and if you like bare minimum distros like the slackware 9.1 + 2.6.3-rc1-bk2 kernel that I'm running now)
