Thanks, for your help guys. I havent cracked this issue yet, I think I'm going to go a little slow on this. I also need to reed up a lot on krb and pam .... currently I'm just copying these settings from various site as they are w/o understanding what they really do. ONce I catch up on these things I'll get back to this issue.

Writing a PAM module is an interesting idea, but won't autofs help in this? I remember using it to NFS-mount home directories, but don't know if it can SMB-mount.
