The problem that I face is this:
1. I cannot log in at the FC1 GUI login prompt (I'm using gnome) using the windows username (user1 or user2) and password. I can only login using my FC1 local username and password. This is the first thing that I want to be able to do. I should be able to login as any user (even if the user is not added in the local FC1 machine).
I think that gdm, the Gnome login program, will use /etc/pam.d/gdm, instead of /etc/pam.d/login, so try and modify that file on the lines of what you have setup in /etc/pam.d/login.
Alternatively, boot in runlevel 3 and get your text based logins to work first - this of-course assumes that you have not already tried/done that.

I'd appretiate your help a lot. I'm sorry for the long email, but I just wanted to make sure I've given all the details.
A long descriptive mail like this is any day more welcome than some of the ones we get - "Fudoara client not work with win2K AsD. please give me a Command!!!!"
