Thanks Varun that solved the login problem. I modified the gdm file. However, I still need to maintain two login names and passwords, one for linux and one for Windows. Anyway to avoid this?

The only accounts you should maintain in the local files are the root account and some daemon accounts. Why do you need to maintain any other accounts in the local files?

Well... On my Linux clients I need to add a username (user1 or user2) which is the same as the user1 / user2 name that exists in the Windows 2000 ADS server. So I need to have a user e.g. "user1" added to my WIndows 2000 ADS and the same user "user1" to be added on the Linux workstation. Only then can I login from my current machne as "user1" to the domain. If suppose I do not have a "user2" added to my local Linux workstation, then I cannot login from the Linux workstation as "user2" to the Windows ADS.

Now, I want to be able to login from the Linux workstation as "user2" without having to add it as a local user to my Linux workstation. Any idea's?
