My point was how severely does one want to enforce it. For a very short conversation where the whole email can be seen in one screen I donot think it is fair to be "so strict". I do understand the drawbacks in having a conversation becoming lengthy and top posting in such a situation. My take is if there is a long email being qouted for genuine reason - it would probably require inline comments rather than top or bottom posting.
