Hint 1: Try and avoid apps that keep changing their config file/
directory layout with every new minor versions. After all, there
are choices.

of the apps that you use.

Hint 3: For newbies, try and avoid sharing common directories
across distributions unless you know what you are doing.

I never had problems with dot-files being shared across multiple
distributions (with my setup) so far :-)
