Hi,

I recently attached a Dell LCD (1024x768 @60Hz) to my laptop. I am
able to see the extended desktop in Win XP Pro, but in Ubuntu I can
only see the cloned screen. The card on the laptop as per lspci is:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM
Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)

The xrandr -q output is:

$ xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 1024
VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
304mm x 228mm
   1024x768 60.0*+ 75.1 70.1 60.0*
   800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x480 75.0 72.8 60.0
   720x400 70.1
LVDS connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
   1024x768 60.0*+ 85.0 75.0 70.1 60.0
   832x624 74.6
   800x600 85.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x480 85.0 72.8 75.0 59.9
   720x400 85.0
   640x400 85.1
   640x350 85.1

As you can see the maximum screen is being reported as 1024x1024
instead of 2048x768 (or 2048x2048). I have tried changing my xorg.conf
and specifying a larger virtual desktop also but Ubuntu switches to
low resolution mode under new xorg.conf file.

Could someone please help.

Regards.
