Can you please mention, which commands you've tried ? Following is what I tried: 1. I plugged my VGA monitor in a running GNOME session: - ----8<----8<---- abbe [~] monte-cristo % xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 2880 x 900 VGA connected (normal left inverted right) 1440x900 59.9 + 75.0 59.9 1152x864 75.0 74.8 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 60.0 720x400 70.1 LVDS connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right) 367mm x 229mm 1440x900 60.0*+ 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 640x480 59.9 TV disconnected (normal left inverted right) - ---->8---->8---- 2. Although, my new VGA monitor is detected but still no display. So I put it in clone mode, initially. - ---->8---->8---- abbe [~] monte-cristo % xrandr --output VGA --preferred - ----8<----8<---- 3. And after this I want my notebook LCD to start at [0,0] and VGA to start at [1440,0], so I did following: - ---->8---->8---- abbe [~] monte-cristo % xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS - ----8<----8<---- Thats all. I'm on Gentoo GNU/Linux (hardened/amd64) using Intel 965G graphics chipset. I've also taken a screenshot[1].
