        Ok, so the problem is not in the IrDA stack, but either in
IrComm or PPP. Check what PPP is saying when it fail and make sure
that it is a *new* PPP instance (i.e. pid different from the previous
instance). Make also sure that there is no zombie PPP instance staying
on the system, because it would grab exclusive ownership of
/dev/ircomm and make the new instance fail silently.

        I suspect your modules.conf is not set up properly.
