Hi Mark

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are after, but do know that the
imap server that comes with redhat (not cyrus) is compatable with the
regular (i think mbox) format. I read my mail with pine via telnet on
really slow links, but use an imap client when I have a fast connection.

This combination has been seamless for me.
