First - I'm a Linux newbie. ( This probably explains everything )
I have set up Redhat 5.2 on my desktop at home (works fine) and my laptop.
No matter what I do on the laptop X still defaults to 320x204 resolution on
a screen that
should be able to get 800x600.
I understand that 700G has the 'infamous' Neomagic chipset.
I have done the RTFM thing, read everything I could find on the web.
(Many references that the CTX 700 series runs X).
I downloaded and RPM'd in the Neomagic SVGA driver from Precision Insight,
and swapped it for the redhat driver. (no help)
I have used all of the X config programs to try to beat this
(XF86Setup, configurator etc.), worked with the XF86Config file,
tried to adjust the video timings, got rid of virtual screen references,
tried using the standard VGA driver (640x480) and the SVGA driver
whispered sweet nothings and cursed it in three languages ;-)
One interesting thing is that sometimes Xvidtune comes up after
the XF86Setup program in 640x480 mode, but won't accept the
adjustments I make.
What am I missing here ?
Is there anyone already setup on a 700G ?
