I don't know the US prices as I'm in the UK, but the local second hand
computer shops regularly feature laptops in their collections, with
prices around 300 to 450.
Based on your specification, you'd be looking for a 486dx or low end
Pentium based laptop with 2 or 3 PCMCIA slots, plus a PCMCIA based
CD-ROM and a PCMCIA Ethernet/Modem.
Pricewise, the laptop would be around 300-450, the Ethernet/Modem
around 120 and the CD-ROM drive with PCMCIA controller probably 150
to 200, giving around 570 to 770 for the lot, at least here in the
UK. Have a look at your local second hand computer shops and see what
they're offering and at what prices...
Best wishes from Riley.

| There is something frustrating about the quality and speed of Linux |
