I have a laptop running ATI Rage Lt Pro as well and it works on the Mach64
server in XFree86 3.3.5.  Unless I am missing something if you upgrade to the
latest X you should be able to use the ati accelerated X drivers for the card
instead of doing the fbdev way.

The package said "requires Microsoft Windows 95 or better" - I don't
understand why it doesn't work on my pocket calculator!
