Something very strange...

...is suddenly happening on my previuosly perfectly happy laptop.

When I now launch JBuilder (from an icon), the java runtime process
("java") turns up in a "ps -A" call, but with a WCHAN of "pause".  The
front end never turns up at all.

This is having a rather detrimental effect on my Java development!  :(

Can anyone suggest what's happening - I have no idea.
