Hello there,
I'm interested in StarOffice 5.0, but I can't seem to
find it in .rpm format. Is there by any chance that
I can find it in .rpm format somewhere? Just tell me
the URL. Thanxx in advance.

Subject: Apache 1.3.3 - multiple cgi-bin/ dir's without ScriptAlias?
Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 07:00:35 GMT

Thanks for bothering with me on this one...I think it's rather simple
but none of my attempts have worked.

I am running Apache 1.3.3 on RedHat Linux 5.1 (Manhattan) with kernel
2.0.35. I have successfully setup several user directories, and I
want each to have its own /cgi-bin/. Do I put a dir called "cgi-bin"
in the UserDir (for me it's /home/user/html) and put a ScriptAlias in
srm.conf. My question is this: can I setup a "directory mask" such as
/home/*/html/cgi-bin/ somewhere in the conf files for all user
cgi-bin/ directories? I plan on having MANY users on this system and
I do not want to overload my srm file with that many ScriptAlias
lines. Any help is greatly appreciated!

According to my limited experience with running out of virtual memory,
nothing will "crash". What happens is that the malloc() calls fail,
and so any process that tries to allocate more memory will either
1) Avoid allocating more memory
2) Exit gracefully when it realizes no more memory can be allocated.
3) Crash and burn horribly

Note that 2 and 3 will free up all the memory that process has been
using, which means other processes will probably succeed in their
mallocs. 3 will only happen if the programmer didn't bother with good
programming style. GNU utilities will do 1 if possible (in
interactive programs), and 2 otherwise.

Subject: listing all processes with "ps"
Date: Mon, 04 Jan 1999 15:02:44 GMT

I'm coming from a SCO OpenServer background, and am trying to find an
equivalent for SCO's PS.

The main difference I've seen is that SCO's ps -e gives a list of every
process running. I've only been able to get the user-initiated processes
under Linux.

I've read the man page, but am wondering if I'm overlooking something.
Suggestions?

Thanks for your help,

For fvwm, there is a file called system.fvwmrc (usually in /etc/X11/fvwm)
that specifies border colors for active and inactive windows, fonts, etc.
There is an analagous file (It may be called system.fvwm2rc) for fvwm2.
The .Xdefaults file in your home directory lets you edit the foreground
and background colors within the windows (you can set it up for xterm,
emacs, etc.).

Hope this helps...

hello..

I try to retranslate a program that uses oracle call interface functions
but the linking step fails. (Adabas 10.0 d / SuSE 6.0)
The "ocilnk" script of adabas includes the ocilib.a and some more libs
to call the compiler.

the sample:

/* testOCI */
#include <ociapr.h>
int main()
{
ologof(0); // just one OCI function
}

compiling step:
gcc -c testOCI.c -I$DBROOT/incl // is OK !

linking step:
ocilnk testOCI // error ! unreferences symbol (or funcion)
ologof

have someone an idea why ?

Subject: Shouldn't fdisk know the size of the hard drive?

Before installing RH5.2 on my 10 Gb Hard Drive, I used Partition
Magic 4.0 to shrink the size of the original Win 98 partition down
to 7 Gb, intending to install RH5.2 on the upper 3 Gb.

During the RH5.2 installation, fdisk reported only 1024 cylinders
on this HD, which, with LBA, has 1240 cylinders, and I had to go
into fdisk's 'expert mode' and change the number to 1240 to
complete the installation.

Both Win 98 and Linux seem to boot and run satisfactorally,
but if I run either fdisk or cfdisk to read the partition info, I have
to specify the number of cylinders each time. I thought that
once I originally set up the partitions with fdisk this number would
be written somewhere on the disk. Partition Magic 4.0 seems to
have no trouble determining the actual size of the HD.

Is there something flaky about my partitions or do fdisk/cfdisk
exhibit this same behavior in all RH5.2 installations on large HDs ?

Then it is often, and not always. Will 98 switch from one third-party
driver to another without a reboot? Windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, and NT4 all
have to be restarted before that will use the new driver.

He said "try recompiling the NT kernel to leave out support for PCMCIA
cards"
You said "would you like some help in that dept? its not as hard as you
think once your used to it. I guess the same argument goes for unix"

Two explanations I say for that answer:
1) You had no idea what a kernel is, and were trying to cover it.
2) You misread, misinterpreted, or downright ignored the question.

Then I apologize for guessing 1 above. And no I do not want your code. I
happen to have the full source to an operating system generated by the
legal, collective efforts of thousands of people; it's called Linux.

NT: "New Technology" commonly employed by MS to refer to anything that
is new to Windows.

Pay, Borrow, or Steal. The first is expensive, the second two are
illegal. I did say public, and from there you can infer free and legal.
Come to think of it, never mind, I can work from the Linux sources
anyway.

My point is: everything under Windows is a loadable module. There is no
support for building anything into any sort of kernel, be they the
commercial drivers or ones you write yourself.

Yes reverse engineering; I think it is mentioned in most license
agreements in the context of "I will not" Right next to the point where
you agree that you will not redistribute the product, and will not make
more than one copy, which is to be used for backup purposes only.

I don't mean to steal your thunder, but there are a lot of people you
offended with your first post and your later language. There are kids
reading these posts whose parents would be very worried by the language
you insist in employing in your messages.

One major advantage to writing in correct english is that people will:
A) not complain about it
B) not flame you for it
C) not laugh at you for it
D) respect your opinion
E) pick option 2 way, way above

And so far, I have noticed that none of A through E have happened to you
in the responses to your messages.

box was u/s I fdisked and formatted using win95 boot disk, a Win 98 Boot disk

hangs with 'LI' on the screen.

Is there a way to recover the MBR or a utility availabe?

RH 5.1 has stumped me. When I sign on at the console with a user name
that is all upper case there is no problem. However, when I do the same
at a terminal RH 5.1 spits out a warning to please use lower case. Is
this a gettydefs problem?

"If your terminal supports lower case letters please use them. Please

If I ignore the warning I can sign on.

So there is really no major problem except for letting the users on my
