Ok! but I'm already at the latest and greatest 2.1.132
I even compiled the latest and greatest 2.0.36 kernel version
and have the same problem problem.
I have everything compiled into the kernel and not as modules.
The kernel has the minimum necessary to try and get it to boot.
That is no sound. Parallel printer port, zip. I have only
network,2940 7895 support-no others, floppy and Msoft mouse n PS/2 support.
This should cut down on the interrupt conflicts if I should have any.
For the scsi driver to recognize the hard drive, does it look at the
MBR (Main Boot record)? or does it ignore it? If so, how does NT control
the MBR vs Linux bootup control and use it?
I would assume that the scsi driver would at least recognize the disk drive
before looking ath the MBR for any more information.
Alot of people seem to put NT on disk drive one and Linux on the
second disk drive. I only have one disk drive, using partitions
for both OS's. I assume there is anone MBR per partition v.s
one for the whole disk.

About this CheapBytes RedHat 5.2. Does the CheapByte CDRom contain
everything that is on the RedHat 5.2 official CDRom?
I purchased 5.1 just a couple of days before 5.2 came out. I am not
interested in paying full price again for 5.2 if I can prevent it.
What I would like to do is remove 5.1 completely and install 5.2 from
scratch.

Make sure you have set the emulate 3 buttons feature and press the left and
right mouse button simultaneously to simulate a middle button click.
The middle button is also normally used to do things like drag slider bars and
some other useful functions.

Subject: XFree86 libc5 or glibc?
From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I installed Redhat 5.2 last week. The version of XFree86 that came on the
CD doesn't support my video card, Diamond Stealth II S220 with Verite 2100
chip. Thanks to the help of some good folks in this group I know that the
latest version of XFree86, 3.3.3.1, supports this video card. However, I am
not sure which set of binaries I need to install, the libc5 or glibc
directory. Someone told me that glibc = libc6. But I am still not sure as
to what that means...glibc is newer than libc5 or what? I have downloaded
both directories from the XFree86's ftp site. Which should I install given
that I installed Redhat 5.2?

FAT32 is supported by the latest stable Linux kernel (2.0.36); it allows you

personally, i'd send off the full description to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (one
of the better known white-hat hacker lists) and to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], a project started a few months ago to
essentially start auditing linux. you'll probably reach more admins
directly via bugtraq, while security-audit will get you to the developers

If you want to start X with the same amount of colours all the time (eg
24 bit), then make a file .xserverrc in your home dir, and type the
following line at the top
exec X :0 -bpp 24

Diald sets up a defaultroute to its proxy SLIP link. This is sucking up
all your packets. When diald sees these packets and tries to bring up the
link it finds the serial port already busy.
You could shut down diald with a script in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d and restart it
with one in /etc/ppp/ip-down.d

I use
#make mrproper // cleans old .config
make menuconfig // creates a new .config
make dep // updates dep
make clean // removes .o and any file that can be recreated
make modules // make new modules
make modules_install // install new modules
make zlilo // make new vmlinuz, System.map,
// put them where they need to be and update lilo
if you read thru your Makefile you will notice that
make install
or
make zlilo
will do the job of make zImage, coping the vmlinuz and System.map, AND it
calls lilo to update the boot data

Thanks. It did get me started.
I am also searching for how to use /proc, hopefully with code examples. I
am trying to do something similiar to checkpointing, and I need to use /proc
with ioctl() but am having fits getting it to work properly. For one thing,
I have been unable to locate the proper requests (2nd arg to ioctl) to use.
If anyone knows how to make this work, I would greatly appreciate some help.
I am using rehat linux 5.2 on a Pentium. A code example would be great, or
just information on where I can find the proper way to do it would be great,
too.
Also, cat /proc/self/mem doesn't seem to work. Why?
Thanks,
Rebecca Keller

RH 5.0 and newer and Debian 2.0 use GNU libc 2.0 (or glibc, or libc6).
AFAIK current versions of other distributions are still libc5-based.
