you just need to set it up so users can mount it. Can you post the

Note that only the last of those three URLs is still active...
Note that the Linux DCOM FAQ
<http://softworksltd.com/dcomlinuxfaq.html> asks the following:
"1.7 Should I get involved in DCOM for Linux/UNIX?
DCOM for Linux has been released by Software AG but without
support. So production use is out of the question. However, it works
pretty well for purposes of evaluating the technology and developing
proof of concept programs. DCOM for UNIX won't hit full stride for
several years but its feasible to start the evaluation process
now. More maturity and a killer app is needed for widespread
acceptance. My guess is that distributed computing will get a kick
start when Netscape releases a CORBA enabled version of
Navigator. That will peak interest.
2.0 Where can I get DCOM for Linux?
DCOM for Linux runtime, SDK, examples and documentation are available
for free from Software AG. However, Software AG doesn't provide any
support for DCOM for Linux, neither for free nor for pay. Your best
chance for support is from the dcomunix email discussion list
mentioned above."
When considering whether to use DCOM, consider:
a) It is completely unsupported.
b) There are no promises to fix bugs.
c) A number of problems with running DCOM are noted in the
documentation; seems to reflect the pathological MS problem of things
not working well, and for no particularly good reason.
d) Note the "won't hit full stride for several years" comment.
e) Note that they suggest that CORBA is likely to result in people
getting interested in distributed computing. Which begs the question:
Why not use CORBA instead.
f) "That will peak interest." The word that they probably wanted to
use was "pique." If something "peaks" interest, that means that
interest has reached its high point, and is about to go into decline.
I expect that interest has already "peaked."

I'm sorry but the only reason asia has the technology is because we
sent it over there because labor was cheaper. And yes it did help
modern computing leap ahead. Only because of lower prices.
I bought 4K YES 4K of memory in 1977 made in USA by TI for $700.00
Today from asia I can get 64MB PC100 for under $100.

Subject: HELP! Messed up MBR
Date: Thu, 28 Jan 1999 20:18:44 GMT
I've made a terrible error, it seems.
I usually load Linux from disk. It resides on my secondary hard drive,
whereas DOS and Windows NT reside on my first drive.
When I have tried to write LILO to the MBR, it has never worked, but
this time, but I was reinstalling Linux, and it accidentally overwrote
the MBR.
I've mounted my C: drive, which is a DOS drive, and I've gone in there
to see if I could find anything. There is a boot.ini file there from
linux. However, here are my problems:
I cannot access Win NT, since it resides on my NTFS, a Non-dos partition
on my primary hard disk.
LILO, which is on the MBR does not appear to be working now either, but
I can boot Linux from a disk.
Is there a way I can fix this, without losing all my information? I was
also foolish enough not to create a Windows NT rescue disk.
HELP!

Subject: A problem with bringing system up-to-date (what's __bzero?)
Date: Fri, 29 Jan 1999 11:37:33 +0100
I want to install kernel 2.2.0 (actually, 2.2.1 after I download the patch),
but I have a problem.
If I upgrade net-tools to 1.49 or util-linux to 2.9, they start complaining:
Error loading shared libraries
: __bzero not defined
(this is not 100% exact error message, but I recall that the names of the
program
and of the shared library were not specified).
I've already upgraded my glibc to 2.0.7 (rpm package from
rawhide.redhat.com) and
ld.so to 1.9.9 (but this one is only for a.out executables, right?
ld-linux.so is version 2.0.7)
I've found the symbol __bzero in the executables of net-tools and
util-linux, but grepping
for it in all /lib and /usr/lib files found no occurrences. (ldd on the
problem causing executable
shows no other libraries but libc.6 and ld-linux.2 anyway). And yes, I've
run ldconfig. Several
times. ;)
BTW modutils-2.1.121 seem to have the same problem, although I refrained
from installing them
after finding seeing __bzimage in them
My current distribution is (somewhat upgraded) Red Hat 5.0 with 2.0.36
kernel. I need the 2.2.x
mostly for Xvfb for my unsupported S3 Trio3D card.
P.S. A cc: by mail would be nice although not needed very much.

Your posting is unlikely to produce a response and may be considered quite rude.

Firstly, you are asking for MS Windows C++ programmers/developers in a Linux

Hey all,
I agree, yet disagree!
I've been with MS products since DOS was DOS, heck, I'm even working on my
MCSE (Work dictates it). Window's has gotten worse and bigger from the OS's
stand point, yet, it does do more than Linux. I run NT because I have to, I
run Linux because I want to. I'm an old coder by heart and see Linux as an
opportunity to be the only OS. Yes, that's a dream way-off, but remember
that Linux IS developed by the "world", we can make it do more that MS does,
but do it right!
Each release of Windows is build on top of the other with "Fancies" thrown
in. The "great" ground-up rewrite of Win95, wasn't. The coders on Linux are
not restricted to the Redmond mind set. Hence, the product will grow in more
of a innovative way. The coders also take more pride in their code, which
generally means that it will work better "Out-of-the-box" without 100 SP's.
Bill is a great businessman, or how could he have sold us all SHIT for
years. Better yet, why did we buy it. My answer is that it was the best that
was out there at the time. Linux is finally taking off...who knows, with
corp. backing ( IBM, Compaq and the like) and "No one Person" responsible
for it, it could be the only OS to use -- Time will tell.

access to certain system functions, and the ability to run programs stored
in script files. R implements a language which is not entirely
unlike the S language developed at AT&T Bell Laboratories by Rick Becker,
John Chambers and Allan Wilks. Indeed in the absence of
an R manual, you can (mostly) get along by using the S manual.
The design of R has been heavily influenced by two existing languages:
Becker, Chambers & Wilks' S and Sussman's Scheme. Whereas
the resulting language is very similar in appearance to S, the underlying
implementation and semantics are derived from Scheme. See the
R FAQ for a discussion of the differences between R and S.
R is available as Free Software under the terms of the Free Software
Foundation's GNU General Public License. It comes in source
code form for UNIX and will compile and run out of the box on a wide
variety of UNIX platforms (including FreeBSD and LINUX). A
version for Windows 95/NT can be obtained as binary, and a version for the
Power Macintosh is under development.
CRAN is a network of ftp and web servers around the world that store
identical, up-to-date, versions of code and documentation for the
R statistical package. Please use the CRAN site nearest to you to minimise
network load.

Chmod won't do it for a windows partition, it just doesn't have the
attributes to toggle. You need to alter the mount options, usually by
editing fstab and remounting. The options field needs to include
"umask=000,noexec, quiet". The umask is the opposite of the permissions you
want, so 000 gives everyone read, write and execute priviliges. You need
execute permission to read the folder contents. The noexec part prevents
any other files on that partition being executable. Once you've put that
in it is pointless putting a linux executable on that partition. The
quiet option prevents the system complaining when it can't set attributes
that aren't there.
Be warned, I'm writing this from memory. Check the man pages and make a
backup of fstab before you start.

Hello,
if switching the APM-Function on, i can select the CPU-IDLE oder CPU-Halt that
should save energy.
Which Processors do support this Feature? 386, 486?
Do this Feature work, if there is no APM-Base in the Bios?
Bye

Well, I'm something of a newbie myself, so take my advise with a pillar of
salt. I changed the mouse in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file to use
/dev/psaux. Since doing that, I get normal mouse usage when I run
XF86Setup, which did not used to happen. If you edit the XF86Config file,
you will see a /dev/mouse line in it, most likely. change it and reboot.
