Try editing the configure script to use -lpthreads instead of -lpthread.

Unlike the previous posts, I use Triteal CDE and think it's much better
then KDE. Granted, CDE is a pain to setup, but it is vastly more
configurable than KDE (I've only used v. 1.0, though). It also allows for
a more standardized look on your desktop, since, for better or for worse,
Motif still is the standard look and feel for UNIX. I also like the
Workspace manager in Triteal CDE that has miniatures of all the windows on
your desktop.
Tritel CDE was sold through RedHat, who has stopped distributing it, and I
heard Triteal went bankrupt a few weeks back. However, there is an Accel-X
version of CDE being sold currently. Unfortunately, Accel-X only seems to
sell it with their X servers, and charges $200 for it. If you can still
find the Triteal version around, it's only $100. I don't know what kind of
support Accel-X has for glibc. RedHat has updated rpms on their errata
page for Triteal CDE to support glibc. These worked on RedHat 5.1. I can't
think of any reason why they wouldn't work on 5.2.
Good luck!

To my knowledge no such application exists. I don't think MS have even
released sufficient info for anyone to write one up and I would imagine
there to be too much interest in reverse engineering it as pop3/imap are
satisfactory for email services.

Do you think there should be a time limit for `ident' requests?
For example, we could say that we drop the transaction if it hasn't
completed in a few weeks, even if this is not strictly correct.
Occasionally i find some process left around from some time ago,
presumably cut off by a network problem, or something. Then i kill it.
I don't think these things will ever go away on their own.
Is this fixed in some new version? I'm using RH 5.1.

: Mine (Pittsburgh area, USA) is $39.95 per mo.
It really depends on the area. At my parents house the cable company offers
some lamed version of cable access, but it is at normal (56.6k) speed. To
be honest I don't see the point in that, other than you may get close to
optimal t/fer due to low line noise.
Round at my end of the city the mean income of the residents is lower so
the cable companies are reluctant to cable an entire street just for
an uptake of 2 or 3 homes out of 200 houses. The other point is that
the major reason for going cable is for improved vision quality. Most
residents here think that 50 extra channels means 55 channels we can
avoid watching - but I live at the highest point in the city (Sheffield
like Rome is built on 7 hills - though in Sheffield they are one on top
of the other :) ) and so reception is good enough to pick up out of
county transmissions.
I think that true cable modem access - like you talk of is only available
to citizens inhabiting the region south of Watford Gap service station.

Hi Norman, yes, I'm aware that this is possible, and I guess (for me)
currently it would be the most sensible route to take.
But (perhaps it's just me) it feels wrong somehow to have installed
Linux, taken the trouble to get to grips with it, and then load Win95
apps into it. If I'm going to do that, I may as well boot into Win95
in the first place...
My whole point of installing Linux is a change of perspective to my
normal usage....
Perhaps I'm being weird, but Linux Agent would be fine, but Win95
Agent running in Linux feels like I'm defeating the whole point of
trying linux.
BTW: If I give in, and eventually decide to go with Agent, perhaps you
might be able to offer some advice (if I need it!)

I think
tar xf file.tar
is what you're looking for.
Generally speaking, tar files tend to be gzipped; an easy way to extract a
tar.gz file without disturbing the original file is
zcat file.tar.gz | tar xf -
instead of gunziping file.tar.gz and then untarring file.tar.

I dunno, man. This sounds a bit tricky from my limited experience, so I'm
just going to add a little optimistic noise to this group.
Aren't Jaz disks minimum 1GB? I just hear rumors about these things.
Obviously you could just do two full installations. Make four partitions:
swap some size, you tell me
chunk for system 1 ~250->400 Megs
chunk for system 2 ~250->400 Megs
shared stuff (users) ~(200->500)-swap Megs left
Have LILO sit in its own little world somewhere and on boot you can instruct
LILO which image you want to run.
Boo, hiss, spit on the quick-and-dirty solution. You MUST be able to do a
much more elegant, albeit possibly more confusing, job by reusing the
standard paradigm for top-level, system-level, machine-level setups,
i.e. /, /usr, /usr/local. There're all kinds of user level programs that
could care less what the hardware is that don't need to be copied into
both worlds ... throw these in /usr. If you have programs that query
specific motherboards (but not setup) or somesuch, throw them in
/usr/local.
Maybe you'll end up with five or six partitions on one Jaz disk? Big deal
as long as you're recycling bits.

It is very similar (and you should look up) to the ZIP disk MINI HOW TO.
Shame on me, I should of put this a long time ago on my linux web page
Well, let's start: I assume your LS is on /dev/hdc (like mine)
1) Make a Linux partition on /dev/hdc, about 110 MB: /dev/hdc1
2) Make a swap partition (if you like, or do not have at least 32 MB RAM)
say 10 MB : /dev/hdc2
3) Format : mke2fs -c /dev/hdc1
mkswap -c /dev/hdc2 number_of_blocks_shown_in_fdisk
4) Mount the LS 120: mount /dev/hdc1 /atapi
(your kernel needs IDE floppy support enabled: 2.0.35 will do)
5) Run the usual "setup", and install the A series "to a directory", namely
to /atapi DO NOT CONFIGURE THE SYSTEM YET
After this step, you have a root system on your LS 120. You will need to
boot this !
6) Booting the IDE floppy:
a) select a kernel with IDE floppy support (2.0.35 for example), compile it
and get a "zImage" , or get one already in binary form.
b) copy this zImage to your /atapi directory (i.e on the LS 120 "/" )
c) create devices in /dev (if not already there):
mkdir /atapi/dev/null mkdir /atapi/dev/fd0 (not really necessary, since
it will boot by itself) mkdir /atapi/dev/hdc mkdir /atapi/dev/hdc1
d) create the /atapi/boot directory: mkdir /atapi/boot
e) copy the boot code from an existing Linux box to the LS /boot:
cp /boot/boot.b /atapi/boot
f) INSTALL LILO: the lilo configuration file should look like below:
boot = /dev/hdc
disk = /dev/hdc
bios = 0x00
install = /boot/boot.b
map = /boot/map
read-only
backup = /dev/null
# ############# now, the usual LILO stuff
image = /zImage
label = LSBOOT
root = /dev/hdc1
# ############# Lilo config ends
To install this, name the file to: "lslilo.conf" and then do :
lilo -C lslilo.conf -r /atapi
g) Then do : rdev -r /atapi/zImage 0
(replace 0 with 16384 if you want to speed up the boot, using a RAMDISK)
Last but not least, edit and make an /etc/fstab to suit your needs:
vi /atapi/etc/fstab
then, the fstab file should lok like:
/dev/hdc1 / ext2 defaults 0 1
/dev/hdc2 none swap defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
Finally you've made it: Linux on a disk, just like ol' DOS 3.3 ...
I don't know if this asks your question, but I had to tell the story ....
