I use NEdit alot for code. I have a pretty good vi sense, but I don't feel the
need to do a whole lot of vi while I have a window manager running. Plus, so many
editors can handle the most commonly used regex stuff for searches, etc, why
torture yourself with something you don't like? I, too, have seen some people
sling emacs around like a rag doll, pretty impressive. Hey, if you want to get
started with it, it certainly isn't limited. It just never stuck to me. I've got
lot's of code yet to write, so there's still hope...

Definitely RMS and not RDB databases? Then ISG navigator should do it as
others have mentioned. If it's RDB databases then ISG navigator will still
work but you might prefer to use the Oracle ODBC driver for RDB. You could
use RDB transparent gateway to RMS even if they are simple RMS files but this
would be ludicrously expensive if you don't actually have RDB.

Come to think of it I'm not sure that ISG supports Linux. Oracle does but I
shudder to think of the cost of installing Oracle, SQL/Net, RDB and
transparent gateway just to access RMS files.

But looking at it another way depending on what you actually need to do this
could be as simple as a few lines of DCL running under UCX's inetd server.
It's easy to read/write RMS files in DCL passing args to/from SYS$NET.

Hi All,

I have a RH 5.2 machine with two D-Link DFE-530TX 10/100 card, however,
I cannot get the machine to recognise the second card.

I have successfully had either card working, but not both.

I have an "append ether=0,0,eth0 ether=0,0,eth1" in my lilo.conf

I have
alias eth0 via-rhine
alias eth1 via-rhine
in my conf.modules.

On bootup, the eth0 is initialised, but I get a
Delaying Eth1 initialization
for the eth1 interface.

Any help available ?

Greg.

There are many cdrippers and mp3 encoders available for Linux, including
dagrab,cdda2wav,cdparanoia and bladeenc, l3enc, mpegenc, 8hz-mp3 (no

Gee, guys - I guess it's not really a known fact that common email gatherer
programs know to strip out "nospam" "antispam" and other "spam" references
from your addresses. Be a little creative or just lay out your email

The usenet standard requires a From: line that specifies a real
address. Munged addresses are a violation of the standard. The fact
that you are allowed to violate the standard at will does not make the
existence of such a standard less significant.

There's really no excuse for any linux user to not be using procmail
to sort spam. There at least 1/2 dozen prebuilt "spam fighter" setups
available. You don't have to be a tech genius to use them.

The real point is, what you are doing does nothing to stop spam.
Nothing. You put your head in the sand -- "I don't see it, therefore
it must not exist."

I use my real address in usenet posts and always have. I get maybe
one or two spammail in my inbox a week. Every few days, I check my
spam folder and throw out whatever junk has accumulated there. I used
to forward them to my ISP spam-fighting unit, but they've
"reorganized" and aren't doing that any more. I have yet to devise an
alternative program. But I will.

Just got my copy of Solaris...
As you mention, the price is ridiculously low. As far as installation
I found it easier to install than FreeBSD. The problem with it is the
licensing terms. As long as you're using it on a single system it's ok,
but for anything else the price (of a legal license) is very high. I do
think it's a nice system, but except for ease of installation, I don't
see any advantage over FreeBSD (or Linux).

I had the same problem. The thing is, IF the directory \WINNT is on an
extended partition, AND a new primary partition gets defined, the partition
*number* for the extended partition goes up by one. You can edit boot.ini to
solve the problem, incrementing "partition(n)" by one, where n=system
partition. Then the OS will find the kernel.

Yeh. I had the same problem as of yesterday. I did (quick start, HowTo)
.....

insmod ppa
mkdir /zip
mount -t vfat /dev/sda4 /zip
cd /zip

then try df . or whatever to see if you have about 98meg on the zip
disk. good.
yoyo... (you're on your own)
Always umount /zip or i suspect you'll leave a useless zip dir behind.
There's other things you can do to not have to do this at every boot
session. look thru comp os linux hardware for a posting about zips where
this guy put /dev/hda4 on /mnt/zip in fstab and formats the disk.
Hope it helps. I read for days and days
and...............................and have a disk in the drive when u boot.

Ok .

I have the same problem.

The problem is kde desktop require a adisional library (lib).

You firt go to cd1 go X11 , X11R6 and intall the XFree86-devel.rpm

Then you installed the Xfree86-devel go to mount the bonus cd , and
install the qt-libraries ,after install the kde-libraries, and then
install the
kde programas.

Well, of course it is in their interest to claim that they hold
"essential" patents for an implementation of MPEG2. However,
reality is likely to be a bit different and there are probably
workarounds. Note that a non-infringing decoder does
not need to claim standards compliance; it simply has
to produce good output. Furthermore, the patents don't
apply everywhere in the world.

I did an e2fsck on the partition, and it turned out that a great many
inodes had a wring dtime, and that inode counting was wrong almost
everywhere. The number of free inodes was smaller than what it should
have been. Which explains the difference between du and df, since I
guess that df uses the sub-totals for performance reasons.

However, I doubt that your description corresponds to my problem. I
doubt that I had some process like that one. In fact, df seemes to
give constant results as long as nothing is written on the disk. I
reinstalled my debian 2.0, and still had the same effect. So I tried
to install and remove a package several times. Free space was
narrowing. This was with kernel 2.1.131. I'll try with a 2.0.xx and
see how it behaves.

why the heck not?

All you do is send it back to them, which will open up their program.
Then ask then to "save as", and send it back.

you can put in a jab about your department "not feeling the need to waste
money on pointless upgrades" if you like.

Linux Netscape didn't corrupt; under win95 seems it does. weird;
probably changing lf ->crlf

Well, for starters, that "2.0.34" you mentioned is the version of the
kernel, and only the kernel. Unless they weirded up the slackware
versioning while I wasn't looking.

What is it you're trying to compile?

Yep, it will do that.

And make itself?

There is.

I'd borrow a CD.
