However, since C-Kermit 6.0 was released, many changes have occurred in

C-Kermit 7.0, currently in the late stages of Beta testing, accommodates the

ES1688? There should be a patch for it somewhere on kernel.org.
I couldnt find the patch easily, so here it is, in it's entirety.
Note that the patch says: "for Acer laptops", but who knows - your

u could check the creative (labs) website to see if they have any
information on this sound card, and whether it is compatible with linux.
otherwise, email the support people, or find sum1 who has is setup
already and ask them how.

i do see other people asking if they have drivers for it already here.
Your best bet might be to visit http://www.opensound.com
they have a list of sound cards that are supported.
http://www.opensound.com/osshw.html
you can download a utility from here which allows you to setup your
sound card i think. i have never used it tho.

It depends on your filesystems. If you keep your netscape files in a
FAT partition (not NTFS or FAT32) under either NT or 95/98, then all
three OS's will be able to read _and_ write to them. In Linux, just
point symbolic links from your .netscape dir to the stuff in the
windoze partitions (same with $HOME/nsmail). Just make sure the
partition in question is mounted under all the OS's.

Does linux support files larger than 2 gig? If it doesn't this may be your
problem. (Of course, this also begs the question, how did your user create
the file in the first place.)

Subject: crc error when booting RedHat 5.1 (2)
Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 12:44:07 +0100

Yes I do dual boot. All was fine with both operating systems (Linux and
Win95), when I was using a Pentiun 166 chip. Only when I upgraded to the
233 MMX did the problems begin.

Windows continued to boot fine, but I started to have some small problems
after installing the new chip. Linux on the other hand refused to boot
returning the crc error message.

I then tried to reinstall RedHat with the installation/boot disk but got the
same error message.

I have also received the same crc error when using a nearly dead IBM 6x86MX
PR200. That was on an other system. so the results have no direct affect on
my current system.

Because of the results with the IBM chip this is why I am thinking that I
have been sold a dodgy chip. Is linux smart enough to detect if the chip
has been overclocked before and been damaged. I know from previous
experience that windows will continue to run a faulty chip and only crash
every now and again giving you enough cause to think that it could be a
software problem.

Is the crc error message a legitimate error after the Uncompressing linux
message appears at boot time.

Thanks again.

David

P.S. To the best of my knowledge I have set all my jumper settings to the
correct setting for my 233 MMX chip.

My word, the sweeping statements are *flowing*! Any chance of an
argument here and there rather than just a string of unjustified claims?

So your argument boils down to this: I'm (and everyone else?) no good at
building GUIs, so would inevitably build an awkward one requiring the
user to know about the underlying event handler for the interface to
work (why is anybody's guess). Furthermore, for an unspecified reason,
it's impossible to build a GUI to perform the same task as a command
line, and even if it's possible, you just get a poor one.

Well, I'm blown over by your logic.

I think that the 700 series HP printers are WinPrinters, similar to
WinModems where they rely on the OS to provide much of their
functionality.

There may be some hope, though. Check out

If anyone is working on it, it should be listed there.

What a silly attitude. I despair at the quality of much MS software,
especially Windows 95, but if MS released something that was worth the
money charged to me, I'd buy and use it. This anti-Microsoft attitude
held by many Linux users can get a bit childish. Yes, political agendas
for free software are all very well (ESR, RMS); but boycotting Microsoft
for no reason other than that you don't like the company is pointless.

I would be quite happy if all the world's software was produced by
Microsoft so long as it was "free" (as in restrictions, but not
necessarily money), of stonkingly good quality and did what I want.

Agree. For my Uni course (Computing and Multimedia) I have to be
proficient (or at least be able to work the darn thing) in Photoshop 4,
Director 7, Flash 3, Illustrator 8, Premiere 5 and other Graphic
packages. I have no option but to run a dual boot system.

My reasons of going to Linux is to get a decent environment to build C
programs on rather than that awful Borland Turbo stuff. I have to
submit working programs on the UNI's UNIX network so I need to be
working close to what they use. If they use gcc then I need to be doing
the same hence Linux.

I cannot foresee the day when I can say goodbye to Windoze whether I
want to or not. There is just too much software out there for the Win
platform that I need to be using.
