More info needed, you can't mount a music CD, you can't unmount a music CD.
The drive is write protected isn't an error message, it's information.
I personally had a CD problem, I couldn't open the tray to change CDs,
and then couldn't mount or dismount, I found that I ongly get this
problem if there is a disk in the drive when I boot, this could also
be your problem.
Hope some of this helps, if not respond with more information.

Mine just does it automatically, somewhere with your modem or net setup
there shoudl be an option 'Disconnect on well known errors', this should

Vcards suck.
Check out RedHat's website, they're constantly updating the hardware
support info, you might find the information you need there.

Try a different runlevel, and try holding the shift key down when while the
boot process is taking place, you might get a menu of options to chose from.

You didn't post the script...
I created a script that has the following:
#!/bin/bash
#
echo "hello, world"
And it worked fine...
If I had to guess, I would say you tried to use 'setenv' to set an
environmental variable...That's a csh methodology.
For sh, ksh, or bash try the following:
#!/bin/bash
#
MY_VAR="Hello, World"
export MY_VAR
echo "MY_VAR is set as $MY_VAR"

thanks! that powersupply looks real nice, and saves me from attempting to build
my own (I've never gotten all that good with a soldering iron, nevermind making a
circuit board)... the only thing I don't like about that power supply is it
needs a minimum of 11 vdc input.. most of the scematics I've looked said they
were good to down to about 8.. I'm not sure if this ever will end-up being a
problem or not.. but it'd be nice having a wider tolerance just in case!
btw, for those of you who mised the first post, the link to "MP Jones" site is:
www.mpja.com - the product (the one I found on there at least) is #"4786 PS" on
their site..
does anyone good with electronics know of a good circuit, or something I can buy
(cheap) that will allow me to signal my system (probably through a serial port I
guess?) if a voltage level drops too low? this would be nice to shut down my
system before it got too low to be a problem, and also to put an earlier-warning
battery light in my dash...
Thanks

tar xvzf ksh-5.2.14.tar.gz
will extract it all.
x extracts the files from the archive
v makes tar verbose (shows you what it's up to)
z passes it through gzip to decompress it (the .gz extension shows it's been
gzip compressed)
f uses an archive file rather than a physical tape device
the following does the same thing (for people without GNU tar):
cat archive.tar.gz | gunzip - | tar xvf -
streams the archive through a pipe to gunzip which decompresses it and
streams the uncompressed data through a pipe to tar which then extracts the
files ('-' makes the commands take their input from stdin).

Squid is a proxy server. It provides HTTP / FTP and some other few
services,
but not MAIL or NEWS. To get mails from Internet, you can use a tool
called
fetchmail. It's very simple to configure and works fine...
Other solution is to enable ip masquerading in your Linux box. Run:
# ipchains -A forward -s your_net/your_mask -d 0/0 -j MASQ
(eg. ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.0.0/24 -d 0/0 -j MASQ)
It will forward all ip packets from your network.
Make the Linux box be the gateway of your network (configure Linux as
the default gateway on your workstations).
News, traceroute, ping, mail will work now...
Put the ipchains line in your startup scripts (/etc/rc.d/rc.something)
[]'s,
Matheus.

setenv() is a function defined in stdlib.h; please check if u have this file in
/usr/include. setenv() is responsible for adding your env variables. See setenv(3).

Squid is a HTTP proxy server. What does that have to do with mail?

Squid is a HTTP proxy. It is not a general purpose proxy.

Try software like GetRight that will allow you to resume where you left
off. Sounds to me like your modem or your internet connection letting you
down. Also, FTP sites for linux are often busy, and therefore you get slow
transfers - which cause most FTP software to just hang or give up. Get
Right (not the only solution available) is shareware, and will segment
downloads / restart them / send a PING to keep the connection alive...
Essential software for out here in Morocco, even sitting on 256K to the
Internet :-)

I can't solve your problem, but at least I can sympathize because I
suffer precisely the same symptoms. I've posted a couple of times to
ask for help, and while there have been lots of suggestions related to
improving downloading performance in general (e.g. checking out
IRQtune) the problem still persists. It was pretty frustrating that
no-one would believe that the problem ONLY occured with rpm files.
The problem did not occur when I borrowed a friend's modem (while
still using my computer and telephone line), but my own modem
performed fine on a windows machine. It would appear that there's
some subtle interaction between the modem's software, the arguments to
pppd, and the type of data in rpm files. I suspect that it's software
compression by the modem that's causing the problem; maybe it's trying
to Two things that I haven't tried are flashing the modem's firmware
(because I don't know how to) and changing the MTU arguments to pppd
(I don't know what to choose - the Linux docs as always assume that
you know what such things mean). If you're confident doing either,
then it might be worth giving it a go - and please let me know how you
get on.
The way that I get around the problem is by first downloading rpm's
onto another Unix machine, running them through gzip, and then ftp'ing
the .rpm.gz file. This doesn't change (significantly) the size of the
file, but the download then proceeds without a hitch.
Good luck,
