Yes, it is an Intel based PC, a 386 to be exact, and running SCOs Xenix 2.3.2.
Personally, I think the Xenix support in Linux is broken. I have received some email
to the effect that changes need to be made to the c source code and header
files to make it work.
I think I'll just go the uucp route.

Ah, bon. On pourrait le croire. Manifestement, tu es un dbuttant sur le

Just mount the Win partitions in linux and you can copy the files off
them into linux. For example,

mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /dos

That mounts the first partition on the first drive under the /dos
directory on your linux partition. (Of course, you have to make sure
/dos exists.)

I'm looking for some handy scripts for managing DNS updates, parsing out
Radius logs, etc. Basically, setting up virtual accounts, new
customers, editing conf files and the like are taking quite a bit of
time. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good repository of scripts
that automate lots of these processes. Mainly, I'm looking for info on
automating DNS entries, loading up new clients, checking Radius logs,
and any other type of time-reducing scripts.
I'm mainly using Solaris 2.6 on several Sun machines but am running
Linux as my desktop platform. I like to try things out on Linux (RH
5.2) before migrating over to Solaris.
Thanks. Please email me directly too if you can.

Either you don't have the driver for it or there is a hardware problem.

First of all, turn off this damned MIME posting crap. Only text to
newsgroups.

Ppp-on is a script which dials and connects for you. You don't use it
as an option to pppd. You type `ppp-on' at the prompt or
`/etc/ppp/ppp-on' at the prompt. Then it sets some environmental
variables and uses ppp-on-dialer to actually handle the modem. When
the dialing part is complete, ppp-on then runs pppd.

No...I am using an NT box at work to burn the CDs. I am then looking at the CDs
at home and all file names have been truncated. Unfortunately, I gave the disk
to a guy in my LUG before I knew of the problem. He is the one that reported it
to me.

RedHat 5.2 is being used...but I know of no way to mount a CD-ROM as DOS

"Not too helpful"? I count 45 separate bullet items in this chapter
alone, listing features of GNU make that some or all other makes don't
have, with hyperlink references to places in the GNU make manual where
you can find more details about each of them.

Pretty much every feature of GNU make not contained in POSIX.2 make is
listed here.

Just what exactly are you looking for, anyway?

Hi Kelsey,

I had similar symptoms, which I thought was either Netscape, or fvwm2,
or bad mouse support by X. It turned out to be none of these (see below).

Same here. Everything frozen. Kernel dead.

Well, let's do a little debugging, shall we? My problem only happened on
warm days. It turns out that my problem was excessive heat (and it didn't
take much of that). My motherboard is usually in the 30-34 Celsius range, but
my lockups were occurring in the range 38-42 Celsius. Sometimes 4 lockups in
a day, all around the same time, all during hot parts of the day. So, check that
it's not getting unusually hot in or around your computer. Ever since it's dropped
down to the 60s outside (lockups occurred when outside temp reached the 80s), I have
had no lockups. I am 99.9% convinced my problem is a heat problem.
You can try installing fvwm2.2 (www.fvwm.org) to see if this fixes your WM problems.

Yes, that fvwm2 'solid circle'. Whenever I get that, I just click the mouse once,
and it goes back to normal. Is this where your lockup occurs?

                ^^^^^^^^^^^
Try upgrading to XFree86 3.3.3.1. This may cure your problem, if it's an
X server-related one.

I don't know what else to suggest. I hope you can figure it out.

Good luck,

Sorry, I cannot speak French ! Could you post messages only in English ?
Thank you.

I use mutt, which is AFAIK still alpha but does a very good job.

Try using '-sPAPERSIZE=a4'. For more info 'man gs'.

I think it depends what you're used to. My local PC World has a few Macs
(well, iMacs) on display and it's funny to see how puzzling everyone
finds them. Where are the applications? Where's My Computer? Where's the
Start button? It's utterly bewildering to me - I use Linux, PCs running
Windows, and Macintoshes virtually every day and Macs are the easiest to
use (also the flakiest, but that's another story).

Sad fact is, if you're used to it, it's easy.

I still go back to this site occasionally, when I need reminding what

One should never pass up a chance for babelfish-created humor. Unfortunately,
it does a reasonably good job on the above. The insistance that in fr.*
newsgroups is somewhat ironic here.

"Ah, good. One could believe it. Obviously, you are one dbuttant on the
network; if not, you would know that in groups france *, one speaks French.
**time-out** and if you be not one dbuttant in C, you know that one be never
100% sure to have correctly manage the memory, and that to have write beyond the
end of a block be the cause the more frequent of such error. (the traditional
error here, it is to allocate strlen bytes in the place of strlen+1.) "

Whether one can be "100% sure to have correctly managed memory" is a deep
epistemological issue. Anyone who exercises the normal care of a professional
programmer is as sure of this as you are that you actually are using a
computer.
