Not so, my floppy is an LS-120 drive on the first IDE controller, and is
my only IDE device. Hence, /dev/hda.
I have no devices on /dev/fd* - in fact, I've disabled my MB's floppy
controller in the BIOS, since I have no need of it.

The Connectix cameras work with Linux. There was a post here a while back
advertising a site where a couple kids took a laptop running Linux and a
Quickcam into Walmart and messed around with it. A DejaNews search might
find it. The pictures won't be great, but neural nets can recognize even
the crappiest of images, if that's what you're looking for.

It's not hard to hack, but I hope you know C.

The filename is "Fig" and not "Xfig".
If you are using xfig.3.2.2, the file must contain
"Fig.version: 3.2.2".

I'm trying to install Redhat Linux 5.2 on my Compaq Presario 1670, which has
an AMD K6 350Mhz Processor, 64MB RAM and 8MB of VRAM. The video card is an
ATI Technologies RAGE LT Pro 2+, which is listed at www.xfree86.org as using
the same server (driver?) as other ATI cards in the mach64 series.
But the exact card isn't listed during Xconfigurator. And I can't run X
Windows properly. The command startx does get me to X, but the screen is
split in half, and there's no echo in the command box and various other
problems.
I tried installin it as a generic VGA16 and changing the vertical and
horizontal refresh rates.
I would really appreciate some help.

Hi, there,
I have Linux (SuSE 6.0) and Solaris x86 (2.6) two operating systems
installed in my PC. Recently I updated the Linux kernel to version
2.2.5, and configed the kernel with read and write access to the
UFS filesystem (Solaris x86 filesystem). However, after the upgrade,
I can only have read access from Linux to Solaris (via mount Solaris
x86 filesystem to Linux, of course). I can NOT write any file to the
Solaris x86 filesystem. From documentation of the kernel configuration,
it is said that the newer kernel (2.2.x) has the ability to write
file in UFS filesystem (like Solaris x86 one). Did anyone experience
this problem and know how to fix it? Thanks in advance for your helps.

Whatever distro you pick, there's one caveat: The LILO boot loader. If
you're going to use a dual-boot box anyways, you should use Loadlin and
save yourself from the potential for some major grief. You can use Loadlin
until you get LILO up and running. I'm a Slackware fan myself.
Slackware is great for getting your hands dirty while Red Hat has a nice
install. However, with Red Hat, you have to avoid letting it install LILO
on the hard drive. Let it make a LILO floppy. Then, at the part where you
to the LILO on the hard drive part, turn off the machine and boot with the
LILO disk. Get a copy of the kernel and put it on a DOS floppy, and get
Loadlin from the CD. Then, you can install Loadlin easally on the DOS
partition to boot Linux.
