Hi,
How can I make my hdimage greater than the size of a single floppy?
I would like to keep my DOS apps on the "hard drive" hdimage instead of

fiddling with floppies, but I don't feel like repartitioning the hard
drive to make a separate dos partition. Does this make sense, or am I
completely missing something about dosemu?

I have a Future domain ISA 18X00 SCSI card installed in my Linux system. I
have tried to locate the driver for it but no success. My system is a RH
5.2 with kernel 2.2.6. Starting from kernel 2.0.36 to 2.2.6, I don't see
any support for this SCSI card. I have tried Dejanews and nothing can
help. See if you can give me some advice. Thanks in advance.

I downloaded a trial version from the Oracle site.

Once I decided to go with Oracle on Linux instead of my previously
planned SQL Server on NT I spoke with our corporate Oracle Rep. We were
able to get full credit for what we had already spent on SQL Server 7
towards the purchase of Oracle. I believe Oracle calls this their "Safe
Switch Program".

I believe my version is Oracle8 Server Version 8.0.5.0.0 for Linux (not
the Enterprise Edition).

I installed the downloaded version of Oracle8 on a Linux box with Redhat
5.2 with a kernel recompile to 2.2.3. Runs very well.

I found an excellent user-written document on installing Oracle 8.0.5 on
Redhat at http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/oralinux.html. The Oracle8
installation guide for Linux is pretty good too.

Hello,

I've been trying for a while to get rvplayer to work as a plugin with Netscape4.5

Firstly, it seems that the RAObserver.class and RAPlayer.class are not even
included in the rpm I downloaded from the Real site. I went ahead and copied
them from sun/solaris version.

Secondly, I had to run Netscape 4.07 in order to get the plugin actually activated,
then it is visible in Netscape 4.5.

Thirdly, it is only set up for .rpm files and I cannot seem to add .ra, .ram, or .rm
extensions into the plugin.

Fourthly, even after setting rvplayer as an application - since I could not get it to
work as a plugin, clicking on a real audio file will start rvplayer, but nothing
happens.
I can run rvplayer by itself and successfully play welcome.rm, but thats about it.
I believe I have my LD_LIBRARY_PATH and MOZILLA_HOME set up correctly,
so what am I missing?

I am running RedHat 5.2 on an IBM ThinkPad 380ED with 80Mb RAM.

Paul.

I'm sorry, but I just have to say something about this. Whenever a new Linux GUI
(Gnome, KDE, various X) comes around comparisons are made. Frankly, my jaw drops
at the mention of KDE even being in the same ballpark as Win95 or Win98, let
alone that KDE is better. KDE is *capable* at best, and it is the best thing
going for Linux in the GUI arena right now. I don't want to start a religious
war, but feature for feature, Windows (GUI, not OS) is far superior.

Linux is an unwieldy operating system for those not familiar with command-line
Unix. The X-Windows environments that ship standard with most Linux builds are
pathetic. Caldera's OpenLinux with KDE and maybe some Corel applications bundled
in will be a monumental step towards desktop integration.

Now, if I could just quickly and easily change my desktop resolution and color
depth, I'd be ecstatic.

Under Linux, it's all I use. I love it. It's actually made Linux *usable* for
me, a non-Unix user.

But fat32 is supported out of the box using kernel modules, that gets
loaded on demand, provided that the kerneld deamon is running.
If kerneld is not running, then a lot of things don't work including
networking. The fat32 file system has been supported by redhat since
version 5.1 which is almost a year ago.

This must be the most frequently asked question by now.

It is waiting for you to switch on your first SCSI tape drive ;-)
Really, tar is trying to extract the file foo.tar from the default archive
device, which is usually /dev/nst0 (tar is an acronym for Tape ARchive after
all).

If you want to use a different archive, e.g. a file, then you have to tell
tar about it using the "f" option, details see man page.

We had only purchased a 5 user version of SQL Server 7 for roughly $1400.
Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux with 5 concurrent user licenses was only $130
more. So we made the switch for a mere $130.

But we also decided to buy a service contract with Oracle for an
additional $700 or so.

Finally you have to bear in mind that additional client access licenses
are considerably more expensive with Oracle. I believe that user licenses
beyond the initial 5 would cost roughly $150 with MS and $295 with
Oracle.

But, and this is important to me, my entire experience in dealing with
Oracle and their products has been very pleasant and constructive.
