I've been up and running with RedHat for about two day (yes, I'm new
at this) and installed the CD version of WP8. The installation went
fine; however when I change to the directory /.worperfect/wpbin and
type "xwp" to begin the program as instructed by Corel all I get back
is "command not found". The /wpbin directory contains various
readable README files, a wpmerge file and a very large (80M) xwp
file. One, should'nt their be a lot of wp program files in this setup
somewhere? Two, any insights on what to do now? Any help
appreciated.

Hello,
I want to echo the ascii chars with echo \xnnn where nnn is the octet.
It does not work (it echos the same thing). I tried echo $\xnnn without
anymore success.
How can I have any char from its octal or hexadecimal code ?

Subject: Problem with unmounting a CDROM (in /dev/mtab)
Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 08:14:47 GMT
Perhaps someone can help me with a problem I have with regards to
mounting the cdrom. When I mount it as root, everything is fine.
It puts the usual entry in /etc/mtab but in /etc/fstab
the mount for the hard drive is not /dev/cdrom but /dev/hda!!!!!
So that when I try and unmount (mounting works fine) the cdrom,
it says something like:
/dev/hda is not in /dev/fstab and you are not root
So I can't unmount the cdrom unless I su to root. Does anyone
know of a fix for this? Thanks greatly in advance,
Jason

This is not an upgrade. They are separate distributions with differences
in directory structure, tools and philosophy. Back up Slackware, and
during the Red Hat install tell it to reformat its partition(s).

Hello Fred,
try this :
echo -e "\200"
When echoing any octal caracters you must use the -e switch.

That should be possible as far as I know, but check on the write permissions;
if you are
not logged on /dev/tty1 you will not have write permission.

Subject: "LIN-": How to get Windows partitions back?
Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 16:21:30 GMT
I think I made a mistake when trying to modify LILO (with linuxconf),
and now I cannot boot any OS (Windows 95, Windows NT, Linux) from my
HD anymore. All the Windows partitions are now completely
inaccessible.
I have Win95 and NT both on primary partitions (hda1 and hda3) and
Linux on an extended partition with various secondary partitions. I
used to boot with LILO, which would load one of the linux kernels or
the NT bootloader, which in turn would load NT or 95.
Probably I installed LILO on one or both of the primary partitions
instead of /dev/hda; I don't remember exactly where. I do remember
that I ran the LILO install (in linuxconf) several times before
noticing that when run from linuxconf, it does not update the sector
containing LILO that is actually used during booting.
Booting with LILO after the installation of it did not work; I get the
message "LIL-".
After removing LILO with "fdisk /mbr" the computer says "Missing
operating system". Running fdisk from DOS floppy results in the screen
going blank except for the cursor, the hard disk working rapidly and
nothing else happening until I press reset.
Running fdisk under Linux reports the VFAT partition still where
they belong.
Booting from my NT emergency repair disk just produces the message
that the emergency repair disk is not startable.
Booting Linux from floppy still works, and the linux system on the
hard disk can be started this way. However, even then the VFAT
partitions cannot be accessed. (I automount one of the VFAT
partitions; now I get the messages "Can't find valid VFAT filesystem"
and "wrong fs type, bad superblock or too many mounted filesystems"
during startup.)
I notice that /boot contains the backup files boot.0300, boot.0301
and boot.0303. Since lilo never produces backups unless the backup files do
not yet exist, I am not sure that these files are current.
What causes the boot problem? And how do I get the VFAT partitions
(Windows) back?

Subject: autoconf & automake -> help
Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 18:01:15 GMT
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello,
I need some help from an automake/autoconf expert. I studied the
manuals (GNU autoconf, GNU automake and "Learning the GNU development
tools"), but must have still missed some essential points ?!
The situation I have to consider is:
(Using Linux 2.2.5 / autoconf 2.13 / automake 1.4 and egcs 2.91.66)
I have some 100 C and C++ files distributed in a directory tree ("deep
package"); like below
src---->dir1---->dir11
---->dir12---->dir111
---->dir112
---->dir2
---->dir3
---->include
---->dir5
---->dir6
"dirnn" contain *.c, *.cc and *.h files
"include" contains only *.h files
some files contain some
#ifdef OPTION1 ... #endif
#ifdef OPTION2 ... #endif
#ifdef OPTION3 ... #endif
the target file should be "target" ( the corresponding main() is in
src/dir5/abc_main.cc )
My Questions:
1. What do I have do write in the Makefile.am and the configure.in ?
2. Is it right that I have to put the #defines of OPTION1, OPTION2 and
OPTION3 only once into acconfig.h at the src directory, and are valid
for all subdirs ?
3. I hope I am wrong that I have to manually create Makefile.am in
each subdir ?
And I hope I am wrong that I have to manually create the line(s)
"target_SOURCES = file1.c file2.c ... file528.c" ?
Otherwise I would not understand "auto" of automake and autoconf ....
I understand that the GNU cc is able to find out the dependencies
itself
(concerning the headers) ?.
4. What has to be changed (in the Makefile.am and the configure.in),
when there is a second target2 (a main() ) in src/dir6/file123.c
The main focus of my questions is, that everything important can be
specified in a few sentences, but I can not see, how to avoid writting
manually hundred of lines into Makefile.am and configure.in. Everytime
the package changes (new files or new directories), a lot of manual
effort is necessary to adapt the two files ?
Many thanks in advance !
Andreas

What's the x for? Here are some samples from my .bash_profile. \033
is the escape character.
function 132col {
/bin/echo "\033[?3h"
}
function 80col {

The opposite also occasionally happens; an XY child can be under certain
conditions in the mother which prevent the androgens from performing their
function properly which results in a female child, developing as a normal
female (only diff. would be the aforementioned sex-linked genetic disorders).
IIRC there was a female who competed in the Olympics who was XY chromosomally,
meaning that the blood test the Olympic committee used then diagnosed her as
male (because they didn't want a more squeamish test). It prompted them to use
a new diagnostic method.
Cheers,
Joshua.
