Hi,

I would like to collect some experience around in implementing a file
server (> 400 Gb) in Linux.
Which PC?
Which SCSI controller? (or fiber channel)...
(for example I have old FWD disks from an Hp server to reutilize.. it
exist FWD card for some hw supporting linux ?)
which disks (arrays, or singlel)
card network.

It will be an NFS file server ...

Please anyone had done this send me their thought...

Run apt-get in an environment where the variable `http_proxy' is set
properly. E.g. (bash syntax)
        export http_proxy=http://wwwproxy.my.com:3128/

It's documented in sources.list(5).

i believe p2 is only capable of dual processor.
p2/p3 xeon can do more than 2 i believe. I have seen listings for 8cpu
xeon systems. Not sure where to get motherboards for quad+ xeons.

Subject: ANNOUNCE: GNU Prolog 1.0.0
Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 20:57:01 +0200

GNU Prolog 1.0.0 is available.

For detailed information consult the GNU Prolog web site:

   http://pauillac.inria.fr/~diaz/gnu-prolog.

A general GNU web site (less detailed however) is available at:

   http://www.gnu.org/software/prolog/

Here are some basic information about GNU Prolog:

GNU Prolog is a free Prolog compiler with constraint solving over finite
domains developed by Daniel Diaz.

GNU Prolog accepts Prolog+constraint programs and produces native binaries
(like gcc does from a C source). The obtained executable is then
stand-alone. The size of this executable can be quite small since GNU Prolog
can avoid to link the code of most unused built-in predicates. The
performances of GNU Prolog are very encouraging (comparable to commercial
systems).

Beside the native-code compilation, GNU Prolog offers a classical interactive
interpreter (top-level) with a debugger.

The Prolog part conforms to the ISO standard for Prolog with many extensions
very useful in practice (DCG, global variables, OS interface, sockets,...).

GNU Prolog also includes an efficient constraint solver over Finite Domains
(FD). This opens contraint logic programming to the user combining the power
of constraint programming to the declarativity of logic programming.

Check in /usr/share/afterstep. There's a file named "wharf". There lies what
you seek. Copy the file to ~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep and make your changes.

Sie mussen das cdrom mounten (let's talk english or dutch ;o) )
You have to nmount the cd-rom: mount -t 9660 /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom
I'm not sure whether it was hdd or hdc or somthing like that, read the
manual..
unmounten: umount /mnt/cdrom (if you want to open the tray...)

We have released GNU Go 2.0. The new GNU Go is quite a bit
stronger than the old version.

It can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnugo/ and
mirrors of that site (see list below).

For more information see:

I'm pretty new to linux and after two months of struggling with the RedHat
distribution I picked up SuSE just for the XFree 3.3.3.1. It took me longer
to decide what packages I wanted to load than to install and configure them.
SuSE so far has been a breeze. I'll graceously support and contribute to any
SuSE ng.

Subject: PIKT, Problem Informant/Killer Tool, v1.3.0 released
Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 21:40:51 -0500 (CDT)

PIKT, Problem Informant/Killer Tool, version 1.3.0

HIGHLIGHTS: a new FreeBSD port; a new autoconf/automake
implementation (setups are now as easy as 'configure', 'make',
'make check', 'make install'); a new preprocessor directive
    family--#ifdef, #ifndef, #def(ine), #undef(ine), etc.; a basic
configuration "starter set" via 'piktc -iv +D generic'; bug
fixes; eliminated many hard-coded, preset limits and parameters

PIKT is an innovative new paradigm for administering heterogeneous networked
workstations. PIKT monitors systems, reports problems, and fixes those
problems automatically whenever possible.

PIKT uses an embedded scripting language that sports an especially clean
syntax and introduces unique features to make your programming easier.

PIKT is also a sophisticated script preprocessor and control mechanism for
managing all of your administrative scripts. You can, setting aside the PIKT
language, even use it to version control, install, error log, and schedule
programs written in other languages, as well as to employ macros, meta-
comments, and C-like #if, #ifdef, and #include directives in Perl, AWK, etc.

PIKT is distributed under the GNU General Public License. Available now
for Solaris, SunOS, GNU/Linux, and now also FreeBSD. For more info, and
complete source code, documentation, and data files (all 40,000+ lines of
it), please visit the PIKT Web site at:

you don't need to reboot the system to restart a daemon...this
isn't nt. some info from the logs would be useful, but what is
probably happening is that lpd leaves its lock file after
dying--remove it and restart lpd.

is there anything in the log about lpd dying?
