I've installed Q3A on my celeron 366 (o/c to 458) with 128 meg of
ram, only a voodoo 1 unfortunately. I get anywhere from 6-15 fps
which is quite unsatisfactory to play with. What do other people
get (and with what systems)? It seems to me that 6-15 fps
is slower than it should be with the system I am running...maybe not...
what do you think? Thanks,
Jason

Precompiled kernels in general are a Bad Idea (tm). The only real use
they have are for installation or rescue disks. The point behind having
the kernel source available (besides the ability to change it) is so that
you can customize the kernel to fit your machine, thereby removing bloat
that is seen in certain other os's. The only rpm'ed kernel that would be
worth using would be a source RPM, but how hard is it to untar a tarball?
Your kernel should fit your machine.

Some of us, the creators of good free software, do what needs to be done ---
without making money. Evidently the FSF doesn't make a lot of money.

Redhat has acquired enough fame to occupy a very special and small niche in
the market system, where some money can be made. If you keep doing the
things that need to be done, you can often get the chance to occupy a nice
niche somewhere some day. In extreme cases like Redhat, you can then even
afford to pay 6 Gnome programmers, who do what needs to be done, but don't
contribute anything to Redhat's profits.

Yes, but often with the result that, by doing what needs to be done, you
can only become poor.

Enter your_unresolved_symbol here : ___________ 8-) ... It might help
to know since I've got 2.1.1pre1 now, no distribution though. Only Applix
caused trouble yet and the RH rpm's (2.1.1) come with an additional
library that is not part of the original 2.1.1 distribution ...
Mind that the versions must all match, say you cannot mix the 2.0.112
pthreads stuff with the 2.1.0 C library stuff.

We're looking to promote Linux and related open-source software in an
easy-to-use format. I'm curious to see what sort of response people might
have to a CD that held hundreds of programs for Linux. Rather than trying
to access all the software from off the Internet, we've designed a CD
containing a large variety of free Linux programs that makes installation
quick and easy. It comes with a handy interface for browsing the contents
via a javascript-enabled browser.
We're looking to make this product accessible to customers with slow
connections and who would like to try out Linux. We expect something
like this to be of great assistance to customers overseas who have slow
connections to the Internet but are eager to try out all the lastest
Linux software.
The site is rather new still, but we're hoping to improve. We are also
planning in the near future on offering CDs containing the same software
only in rpm and deb format.
You can check out the CD's content and peruse the site at:
http://www.gnuware.com/
Let me know what you think.

Don't forget ... this is Wag-the-dog IV for Clinton. He wagged three
other times in minor ways because he was only trying to distract from
bimbo and impeachment problems. This time he needed a SERIOUS
distraction because he is trying to keep the press and the American
people from noticing his treasoneous actions in selling military
technology to the Chinese for campaign donations (121 people have fled
the USA to avoid being summoned to testify). Increasing the accuracy
of Chinese missles and giving them the technology to reduce the size of
the nuclear bombs so they can be merved is putting the entire world at
risk, just to save his leacherous neck - that's a crime against
humanity. But, for those of you who voted for him, what did you
expect? This man, who switched his stand on the death penality and
fried a lobotomized Black man to show he was tough on crime during the
1992 elections will have no second thoughts about frying you if it
serves his purpose. And he will do it claiming it is for the "good of
