Did you change your path variable?

There you've hit the nail on the head. Section 1.9 of the seti@home
FAQ (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/faq.html#q1.9) gives pretty
much this exact answer -- they want to ensure completely uniform analyses.
They're also worried about people deliberately faking results or trying
to screw up their database.

I didn't notice the leak in 0.42 (i686-pc-linux-static), and I had it
running for a while as well. I'm now running the 0.46 version
(i386-pc-linux-glibc2), and it seems to be fine as well. Note that
your time per work-unit will increase drastically (8x) with the new
version. Some of it may be due to optimization (the only 686 version
available is for glibc2.1), but they state (also in the FAQ) that the
new version does a more detailed analysis of the data.

dselect is in the dpkg package. sources are available at any debian
mirror, e.g:
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/unstable/main/source/base/dpkg_1.4.1.1.tar.gz

One more question! How do I remove a user that was created by
accident? I've tried manually deleting all files, and then deleting
directories, even deleted the mail file under /var/spool/mail/ but
just to test, I tried creating that username again, and it said it
already existed.
Thanks

Having just gone through this I have some questions about your
config... Can you 'cat' sound files to /dev/audio or /dev/dsp? Can you
play midi, wave or .au files via a sound player?
What does your 'cat /dev/sndstat' look like? Do you get any error
messages on the console when trying to play audio CDs?
I had a situation where I could play audio CDs on one drive (a BCP 40x
CDROM drv) but when I moved to another machine (it had a Memorex 40x
drv) I couldn't. I was getting a message on the console when trying to
play audio CDs via bcd or xmcd. Putting the BCP CDROM drv in the
machine resolved the issue - the sound and kernel config were shown to
be good, it was a hardware incompatibility issue.

Subject: Scanner stopped working in Linux. Why?

I have not used my scanner under Linux for a while, then today I
attempted to do a scan and my Agfa Snapscan 310 just blinked its LED at
me and did nothing. I use Gimp with SANE. The SCSI card is being
recognised on bootup as is the scanner itself.
I just wondered if anyone else has noticed anything similar? I am using
kernel 2.2.6, Sane 0.74-2 and Gimp 1.0.4-1, with Debian 2.1.
The trouble is, I can't remember at what stage my system was at when the
scanner worked OK - whether it was pre-2.2 kernel, pre-Slink or what. I
do know it used to work perfectly. I checked that it was still OK by
booting into Windows and scanning from there. No problem at all.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.
