Assuming you have the adapter installed as per the readme for VMware,
then you need to go into settings -> Control Panel -> Network and select
properties for TCP/IP over the "virtual" AMD (IIRC) network card. Then
set the default gateway to the IP address of the vmnet0 interface on the
linux box. Also select "Specify an IP address" and set it to something
on the same subnet as the vmnet0 interface.
Feel free to email if you need further clarification, it's wandering
off-topic for this group. 8-)

Hi everybody,
I have a problem with my system. I put a new SCSI HD into my box. First,
everything seems to be pretty nice, but when the maximal mount count is
reached, the trouble begins:
> Parallelizing fsck version 1.10 (24-Apr-97)

> /dev/sdc1: 15738/2232320 files (3.8% non-contiguious), 3836780/8924076 blocks
==> system hangs, only hard reset helps. Now the system comes up with
> /dev/sdc1: clean, 15738/2232320 files, 3836780/8924076 blocks
???
Have a look at the attached files to have some more information...
I can work with it, but I am not sure for how long it will take to mess
it all up... (BTW: it is Kernel v. 2.0.36 from SuSE 5.0).
Does anybody know what could get me around that without updating the
whole system?
Regards,
Stephan

Your Domain Name System should have an MX (Mail eXchange) record. You
can see it with 'nslookup -q=mx your.domain.com'
Each MX record has a number associated with it.
SMTP protocol specifies that MX records should be tried from lowest
to highest number.
If you give the Exchange server a lower number, sites trying to send email
to your domain will try to connect to its IP address and fail, it is
behind the Linux box after all. Then they will try the Linux box and
succeed.
The Linux box will accept the message and then notice that a lower numbered
MX record exists. It will connect to the NT box internally and deliver
the message to Exchange.

libc6 is being used in both cases.
On the 5.2 machine
ldd a.out
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40005000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2
nm a.out | grep fprintf
U fprintf
On the 6.0 machine
ldd a.out
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40018000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
nm a.out | grep fprintf
U fprintf@@GLIBC_2.0
You can reproduce the problem even simpler. cc -c the following
on a 5.2 machine
#include <stdio.h>
main()
{
fprintf(stderr, "hello\n");
}
Copy the .o to a 6.0 machine, link, and run ... core dump.

yes, I can connect to other machines. For example, I can connect to my egr
account with telnet "me1.egr.duke.edu", but can't to my acpub account:
"telnet teer11.acpub.duke.edu", or "godzilla.acpub.duke.edu",

I don't know how to answer this besides saying that I connect via

I checked, nothing is there that to me would indicate a report of a

Running Rh6 with a costum-compiled 2.2.9 kernel. A strange behavior has
started a few days ago that Lilo would not start - it displays "LIL-" on
stratup and there's no activity, I have to fdisk /mbr and reinstall lilo
until the next time it happens. This can occur several times a day,
quite annoying. Any ideas?

It's a relatively harmless error that's telling you that the date right
now according to the system is before the date stamped on the source code.
Generally, it's due to a dodgy motherboard that doesn't keep correct time.
Mine's like that.
If you want to avoid the error, connect to the net and run either `ntpdate
-u time.server.com` (where time.server.com is a time server near you) or
`rdate time.server.com`.

Hi again,
It seems you're right about it being a /dev/dsp problem. Shortly after I

got a page full of "couldn't open Linux dsp device" errors which pointed me

Hi !
I have installed RedHat 5.2 on a Compaq Deskpro with 64Mbyte Ram and a
4Gbyte HD, and have installed the Lilo on the MBR.
Some problem came from the Matrox G200 graphic card so I used a
standard VGA driver.
The netintelligent card was recognized as a Intel Card
however it work fine.
I have used the RedHat setup program and before have clean
(completely, with fdisk) the hard disk.
Pay Attenction:
Linux must start on the first 500 Mbyte.
Best Regard,
Andrea.

I used RedHat 4.2 and 5.1 and could not compile shit.
Then I downloaded Slackware 3.6 and burned a cdrom.
Problem solved.
