Hi,
I have heard that the __setfpucw routine was removed from gclibc 2.1.
If your C code used this function, then it would stop working. Look
at http://www.linuxsupportline.com/~billm/index.html for some
information on using the new proposed extensions to the C language.

Subject: Multiboot question
Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 03:02:14 -0400
Here is my current scenario:
/dev/hda : Maxtor 4 GB HD, Running Windows NT 4.0
/dev/hdc: Western Digital 6.4 GB HD, Running Linux RedHat 6.0
I have currently come to the conclusion that, although I am happy at the
fact that I am running 2 incredibly stable OSes, I have no outlet
through which to play most of my games (besides Q2, that is). So I have
decided to sell my soul and put a small win95 partition on my computer,
just big enough to hold all of the games I'd like to play. Currently my
system is being booted through the NT Boot Loader, and my question is
this: is there any way I can add a 95 partition to this system and not
have to redo everything, thereby losing the games I have on there (and
can't replace)? I understand that one of the above would probably have
to be formatted and split up to make room for a new partition (unless I
use partition magic), but my problem lies in the fact that I'm scared
that if I set up a w95 partition, it's going to overwrite the MBR and
screw over the linux/NT partitions. Has anybody done this, or have a
viable solution? Thanks...
Shaun

Open fdisk in Linux change the T(type) to 6 on all Linux partitions then
W(write) Shutdown Linux and boot with a DOS bootdisk. At the a:> prompt

If the character set is set to US-ASCII there are no umlaut characters.
If they want to send umlaut characters they need to set their character
set to West-European (or whatever the paramtere is called this month).
Then they should enable mime and convert to Quoted-Printable to make sure
no mail gateway garbels the message by stripping the 8'th bit.
If this is done the characters will appear in pine same way as they were
sent. In pine you defind the character set as iso-8859-1 to avoid a
warning about incompatible character sets.

The standard character set fo e-mail within West Europe is iso-8859-1
aka latin-1, which includes both German umlauts as well as French
accent characters.

Only if you're brainwashed enough by the mass media to believe that
countries like Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Saudi Arabia actually have
their own governments, and aren't colonies at all.
But yeah, we all know that they are *really* colonies, with CIA
staging elections to control the puppet regimes.
(Actually, I never thought I'd say this, but I kinda agrees with
Richard's rant about USA (and others) liberalizing/protecting markets
as it sees fit - and "it" being dominated by certain lobby-heavy
industries. Segregating into "exploiter nations" and "colonies" is a
bit harsh, and I don't think it serves to promulgate reasonable debate
about the subject.)

also read a very short file somewere that went into more depth by saying

Could anyone explain the steps required to make a bootable CD, and is it

I reinstalled with a smaller subset of stuff (still noting that most of
it was shown as "already installed" after I had completely wiped any
data on the non-NeXtstep part of the disk and did another clean install)
and beat hard on the LILO screens. There was a popup list which allowed
for DOS/Windows and OS/2 booting, but there was no way of specifying an
alternate OS (in my case, NeXTstep, which was already installed, and a
quick update of /etc/lilo.conf and running lilo gave me easy access to.)

I gave it a try (I usually just toss in one of my own hand customized
files) and it really was a >major< improvement. I didnt get around to
trying to install the Pinnacle sound card drivers or map to my networked
printer yet, but Ill do that sometime a little later in the week.
For me, the selection of packages was by far the worst part of the
installation. A better set of configurations, proper indication of
what is and is not installed, and useful help online (and in the
manual - there are no descriptions of the configurations and less
than a page of text on this whole subprocess in the installation
instructions) would make this a much better product. I like the
layout of the system, and the default KDE desktop as configured is
much more appealing and better setup than the default fvwm2 desktop
that RedHat 5.2 had (this obviously is configurable, and I dont know
what RedHat 6.0 shipped with.)
Im already happy about the switch to SuSE, as I feel I got a better
product for a lot less money than I would have spent on RedHat for the
base operating system and PowerTools. (BTW, it appears that the kernel
did accept the 512M page file I gave it, so it appears the warnings in
the partitioning software and manual can be ignored if you install the
2.2.5 kernel from the SuSE 6.1 discs. It looks like you can choose the
2.0.36 kernel after you partition, which is probably why the warnings are
still there. I also missed the fifth disc hiding behind disc four in the
case the first time!)

I'm hoping to find someone with some artistic talent willing to
contribute a logo design in exchange for whatever fame or good
karma might be earned as a result of generously contributing
a little time and talent to The Cause.
I compiled the gnu egcs tool chain and cynus newlib for linux
host and the Hitachi H8/300 embedded microprocessor target system.
Additionally, I created a linux based FLASH eprom programming tool
for programming the H8/300's with on board FLASH memory.
I am GPL'ing my FLASH programming application and am planning to
call it GnuZFLASH. It's Gnu, it's for FLASH, and, well.....Z
The web site is http://www.zanshinsys.com/linux-h8300
the GnuZFLASH application is what is currently referred to
as the "flashpod" adaptor and the h8flash application.
I plan to update my site and would like add a new logo.
The idea I have in mind is the linux penguin in a reclined position
wearing wayfarer type sunglasses and an open newspaper across his chest
with a small H8 logo on it. Above, is the bright yellow sun with rays
shining down on him.
TIA,
randall

There is some problem when I setup mirror for my linux. I am using
raidtools-0.90-3 and kernel version is 2.2.5. The source partition is

Then I've written /etc/raidtab as following,
raiddev /dev/md0
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
nr-spare-disks 0
chunk-size 4
device /dev/sdb1
raid-disk 0
device /dev/sda1

and then I run 'mkraid /dev/md0'
it says,
handling MD device device /dev/md0
analyzing MD device /dev/md0
disk 0 : /dev/sdb1, 2056288kB, raid superblock at 2056192kB
/dev/sdb1 appears to contain ext2 filesystem

What's wrong with me? should I format /dev/sdb1 once again?

It's meant to be harsh. If you see torture, call it what it is because
you don't gain anything by using the euphemisms the perp wants you to
use. No intelligent discussion can be held about trade if you ignore
the realities of exploitation and protectionism. I'm being deliberately

Probably wrong permissions for the files. If the installation didn't
already create a group called pppusers (or something similar), then
your friend can create one and make himself a member of it. Then he
needs to change the permissions on (off the top of my head)
/wherever/ppp-on, /etc/ppp/options and /etc/ppp/dialer (or whatever

How easy is it do do this? Obvously, my current partition covers this
area of disk so (in theory) all I have to do is provide a _division_
that I can drop kernels into that is wholly within the confines of
cylinder 1024. But does Linux _have_ to boot from the first division

for kernel copies and set the main division as #1 for the rest of the

cylinders - or is it more complicated than that?

There is also the linux7K project, which is building linux on the Psion5

It is possible that support for the latest ericsson device and the new

All these devices have a CF or PCMCIA slot so Flash memory devices can
