Hi all,
I am running SuSE6.1 and find some problems in setting NIS system.
There are 2 pc running Linux in my network and i try to setup a NIS system.
After starting the ypserver, the user of the server side can login through
the client side. However, error message "YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN:Domain not bound"
occurs frequently in both server and client side. Have anyone meet the same
problem and how can i tackle it?
    Thx a lot.....

If you have KDE installed about the best you can do is to use
kfm..(actually quite fast but no java support)

The only real changes the patch makes to apache is that it adds an
extra variable in the request_rec (I think) structure. This is to
hold the execfilename target. Frontpage runs its own cgi that acts as
sort of a suexec and stores the file that that cgi needs to run in the
execfilename. Incidentally, when I tried to compile php as a static
module into apache 1.3.4, apache segfaulted everytime I tried to load
a .php page. There is a different version of the patch written by a
different company. It doesn't mess with the request_rec structure.
It just adds a couple of function calls and a more robust module that
you can turn on or off per VirtualHost. It can be found at
ftp.vr.net.

If you mean a D-Link DFE-530TX, then it uses the VIA Rhine chipset, which
is supported starting with something late in the 2.0.x kernel series. It
should therefore work "out of the box" with any Linux distribution that
uses a 2.2.x-series kernel, but might or might not take some extra effort
with earlier kernels. (Note that the initial Red Hat 6.0 install floppy
was missing the VIA Rhine drivers, so you need to download an updated
floppy image *IF* you're planning on doing an install from a network
device, like NFS or ftp, rather than using a CD or local hard disk.)

if you installed lilo, just type *linux single" when "LILO boot:" appear,
no floppy needed.then you can login as root without password.

Just a quickie, been searching the web and deja.com to try to find the
address of that site that gives information on what kind of machine a
server is running on.

Can anyone send it to me either on news or email??

Cheers guys!

The definitive source for this is the X man-page:

The X Consortium requests that the following names be used

Eight way AMD K7 chipset on cards

AMD has licensed Poseidon to produce SMP chipsets for the Athlon K7.

And, at the same time, Poseidon has changed its name to HotRail and
secured funding from aspate of VCs.

HotRail has described a simultaneous switched matrix (SSM) system
that will support multiple K7s with up to eight processors.

AMD has always said it will sell K7s, sorry Athlons, into the server
market but this is the first clear evidence of how that will work.

Our sources indicate that systems are not likely to appear, however,
until next year.

In the meantime, both Compaq and API, the Samsung sub, will seriously
market SMP systems using Slot B and the Alpha processor.

Our reports indicate that Alpha will be the first processor to run at
1GHz without aid of cooling technology.

I'm using RedHat 5.1 on a server right now, and wonder how, if I run
this 'rdate' command when the server dials into its ISP to grab mail,
can I get the Windoze boxes on the network to set their time from the
Linux server?

In the past, I've used a Windoze utility called D4 but it's overkill
for what I need (I think).

Can I get Linux to broadcast the time on an SNTP port or something?

Thanks,

If I remember correctly, NT has a copy of fdisk somewhere. You can
create an NT boot floppy and put fdisk on it and then run
fdisk /mbr
But I think any dos fdisk will do since the form of the master boot record
is quite standard.
Also, if I remember my experience with NT, I think you can choose
during installation to reformat the disk, and then it takes care of
the MBR.

To be more explicit, you can do an ftp install from a mirror site, but
it would be impractical using a modem. If you actually want to download
the distribution, you need to use rsync. That way you can make a copy
of the distribution on a local machine, thereby creating your own mirror
site. Trying to do it just by downloading individual files doesn't work.

Subject: Problem with dip dial-up
Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 23:00:43 +0800

Hello, I am using dip to setup my dial-up networking to establish ppp
connection with the ISP in Redhat Linux 6.0, the modem is able to
intialize the call but it does nothing after that, i.e. dial tone with
the corresponding number and nothing happens after that. The modem in
the remote end of the computer does not seem to respond.
Owing to the answering machine that I subscribe to the telecom company,
I usually disable the detection of the dial tone in the Win 95 modem
configuration because my telephone does not give solid dial tone with
the telecom answering machine installed.
Does anybody know exactly what number I should have dialed to bypass the
dial tone detection machanism in Linux?

Thank you,
Ben Goh Chong Kuan

There are hacker kits out on the internet for hacker wanabes. They
don't need to know very much to get in and they can even hide things
from you which you might not find. E.G., files or directories beginning

Why not? "Ko0l d0odz" have nothing else to do anyway.

As you found out this is not a great obstacle. :-)

But in a case like yours start from putting a line like
 ALL: ALL
in /etc/hosts.deny. This will not close every possible hole but it
will go a long way towards that. And read what 'man 5 hosts_access'
has to say.

I just got a new hardrive(13.6GB) and I want to install all
three OSes available to me. Any suggestions about the
partition, installation order etc?
such as: which way is better, use PartitionMagic or fdisk
or fips of Linux to partition the drive?

thanks.
