Thanks Philipp
It is a nice document but does not make sense in my situation.
I am using RadHat 6.1 and my first problem is that the lp has
not been driven properly. "turnlp /dev/lp0" told me "No such
device" and "insmod lp" told me "a module named lp alread
exists".
I even re-build my kernel to try to solve this. When I "make
xconfig", what I see about parallel port is "M" instead of a
gray "Y".

Hi Patrick
I had similar problems on a Slackware 3.3 system.
I got the latest apache source, php3 source, libc source and a few others
Each time I got a new library and tried to compile it, I found I needed a
later version of something else!
In the end I gave up, I'm going to try again shortly with a new installation
of the latest Slackware.
Sorry about the grim news, but just wanted to warn you of what you may have
to come! May be better just to go to the latest Slack first.

Mandrake 7.0 is more up-to-date when it comes to package versions than
RH 6.1, so it's not just a repacked RH 6.1. Also the kernel is more
recent and patched for enhanced security, Mandrake has configurable
security levels, different installation procedure, use a
pentium-optimized compiler and so on. It's not _just_ a repacked RH 6.1
(but still it's supposed to be RH-compatible, so it can't be entirely
different either...)
A new Mandrake distro based on RH 6.2 would look pretty much like the
current Mandrake 7.0 (at least when it comes to package versions), so I
bet we won't se a new Mandrake before kernel 2.4 is released. And as RH
is pretty good at keeping their 6-month release cycle, a new RH 7.0 with
2.4 kernel won't appear until after summer ...

When trying to boot WinLinux 2000 final, it stops after the message
'Starting K desktop environment'. It even rebooted itself one time. I read
that this is a video card issue but i've already double checked my settings
in Config Utility and it correctly detected RIVA TNT/TNT2 as my video card
(I have a Creative Labs TNT and they do not specifically have this choice in
the 'Force Settings'). The TNT is one of most popular video cards out there
so i'm not sure why it would cause this.

I want to know how to install a ppp0 device in RedHat. Do I need

BTW, the ppp module is modulable in my kernel. If do not want to
re-build it to "Y", how can I load this module everytime when
the machine start?
Thanks in advance.
