Sorry, Jim, but I agree with Mark :

>From my linux box with Readhat 5.2 :
[fd@frodom fd]$ man X
X(1) X(1)

NAME
       X - a portable, network-transparent window system

SYNOPSIS
The X Window System is a network transparent window system
which runs on a wide range of computing and graphics
machines. It should be relatively straightforward to
build the X Consortium software distribution on most ANSI
C and POSIX compliant systems. Commercial implementations
are also available for a wide range of platforms.

The X Consortium requests that the following names be used
       when referring to this software:

                                   X
                            X Window System
                              X Version 11
                      X Window System, Version 11
                                  X11

X Window System is a trademark of X Consortium, Inc.
<...>

It is quite clear that the X Consortium doesn't speak of X Windows
                                                        no "s" --^

I have always thought that IBM (AIX) is not good about unix!

And uses "Windows" for Microsoft Os ...

Sounds like you need to install an MTA on your machine. sendmail, qmail
or
postfix should do the trick.

This is your problem. Just because Windows does not act up doesn't mean
nothing is wrong. Linux is super-sensitive to the hardware
environment. Drop your Celeron to what it was rated for at the proper
voltage settings - you won't notice it reboot then.

It would be good if people responding to this request would also explain
how they use Linux. For example, a web server for your company, general
purpose office use, etc. Also, it would be even better if you could
mention the applications you use most.

How big is your gateway disk? If it was 10+ meg and you moved "C" down to the
8Meg line, you may JUST be at the 1024 cylinder boundary that LILO can use for
booting. As for getting a SCSI controller instead of an EIDE controller - but
happy.

what's wrong with adding:

append="ether=0,0,eth1"

to lilo.conf? (if this is a second ethernet card)

if it;s the first ethernet card, why is this even an issue? shouldn't it
get detected on boot? or does modprobe need that much specific info?
maybe now i'm getting distribution specific... hmmmmmmmmmm

I am using RedHat 6.0 on an HP server with 1.25 GB of memory, but I can
only use 970MG.

Does anybody know if this limitation is in the kernel (2.2) or is it in
Redhat release. And, is there a work around, because we are looking at
upgrading the memory to 2GB to enhance performance.

Cheers,

It would be fun to just respond to every post with the line "just reboot".

In fact, it would be wise to write a script to do this. (for as long as your
ISP will let you live)

On my RedHat 6.0 system, that function is in /lib/libc.so.6 which is a
symlink to /lib/libc-2.1.1.so . It also appears to be defined in the
file /usr/lib/libc.a . I think the libc.a is for 'statically linked'
programs. Oh, there is also a reference in /usr/lib/libc.so to the
file /lib/libc.so.6. I think this last is how the /lib/libc.so.6 is
found by the dynamic linker (is that what's it's called? - the thing
that loads the shared libraries).

Hope this is of some help to you.

It's very difficult to conceive of one. "rx" is a more liberal setting
than just "x" so anything which can be done given "x" can also be
done given "rx". Some things which can be done given "rx" cannot
be done given just "x".

I'd be very surprised if anyone can come up with a security advantage
of "rx" over "x".

Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry if this is a stupid question ahead

fsck usage: fsck device
