I could use the step by step guide, if you don't mind. I'm using
Mandrake 6.0 but it should be close to RedHat 6.0. I have hundreds of
TrueType fonts that I could use.

Well, try to make a simple program with some bug! The most probable thing
to happen is to crash windows!

I would recommend that you first test using xfsft or the "quicker"
solution xfstt provide. Why convert when you can use tt-fonts direct.

However, for converting purposes...(if you really insist):

http://www.mindspring.net/~john_mcl/adding_fonts.html

Applets, scripts and procedure is explained in a slightly different
context as this is a page covering how to get tt-fonts to work with
StarOffice, but the procedure would be the one you're looking for.

Note: RH6 comes with xfsft built into the x fontserver (xfs) and the
task of enabling truetype fonts has become quite painless - i have an
old "step by step" posting handy if you want it.

Which only goes to prove that a sufficiently incompetent administrator
can crash any OS.

As for the 57 days, I have had WinNT systems running for months without
failure, reboot, or crashes. I am competent.

As a server, Unix, including even the Linux imitation, still beats
WinNT.

And here a walk-through on xfstt - the other "main" tt-server:

xfstt - found at ftp://ftp.metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/X11/fonts/

In the Makefile for xfstt a default path to your windows fonts is given.
Modify the relevant line to reflect where your Windows disk is mounted,
if you want to use the fonts located there. (they're in
/whatevermount/windows/fonts) Then "make" and (as root) "make install".
Then - as whoever you want to - fom the commandlike run:
xfstt &
Now WAIT... some 4 seconds BEFORE starting X, so xfstt gets time to
unwind :)

The very first time you start it, start with xfstt --synch, to let it
create a database of installed fonts. Synchronizing is only required
when xfstt needs to know about added or removed fonts.

After X is started - with startx or what you use - you must set a
fontpath that xfstt will find fonts at. xfstt doesn't cooperate with the
native xfs fontserver. Write:
xset fp+ unix/:7101
This tells X that there's an additional fp = fontpath found at that
port. Since xfstt runs independantly of xfs, the command "chkfontpath"
does not affect it.

The included FAQ has tips on how to start xfstt at boot time.

Hi!

I have two computer systems, a AMD K6II 350 and a PIII 450
at /proc/cpuinfo the PIII shows only 110 and the K6II
has 699.6.
Can this numer be correct or is there a problem with linux
(suse 6.1) and a PIII. I also have the feeling that the PIII
IS slower than the other one

This is a known problem with the session manager. It has
been reported to the gnome project, but they haven't fixed
it yet. It seems to be sporadic, so it may be difficult
to replicate. I have the problem on a laptop but not
on two desktop machines I use which also have RedHat 6.0.
I installed a relatively recent version of the gnome-core
package, but it didn't help.

If you look at the file .xsession-errors before logging
out, you will probably see complaints about authentication
and MIT MAGIC COOKIES.

In my case, it seems to happen almost without fail immediately
after I've rebooted, but only if I login as an ordinary user,
not if I login as root. And it does not happen thereafter.
I just use Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to get out as soon as it clear
what is happening. This logs me out and I login again without
trouble.

It could have something to do with the gnome settings for
the user.

You can try posting your error with at www.gnome.org. If
they get enough different examples, it might help them
locate the source of the problem.

It could of course be almost everything. Try checking the
integrity of your packages, particularly those having to
do with compiling programs and libraries. Use the
rpm -V packagename
command.
Make sure you run it as root since it requires permission
to read various things to work properly. You may get some
innocuous complaints but if you have various files missing
or anything else looking fishy, you can try reinstalling
the offending packages.
I hoep someone else will have more specific suggestions.

Because they're correct, and even conservative economists agree on that.
The idea that you can have 100% employment is only believed by extreme
left-wing economists, so the rest accept that you should redistribute
income after it's acquired.

Further, even if all the above is incorrect; a dollar in the hand of
a poor person is *not* the same as in the hand of a rich person since
there is a large difference between buying necessities like food &
clothing, and buying a second car. In order to maximize global happiness
or Utility, you have to redistribute until everyone has an equal amount
of wealth.

Hey guys :-)

I have RH 6 installed on my P2 266 64 RAM.
I've been using Junkbuster for a while and it works great, but now i've
decided to set up Squid too and enable them both, so they can work
together.
On the Junkbuster's page they tell you how to enable squid and
junkbuster to work this way:
Browser ---> Junkbuster ----> Squid ------> WWW
But this way squid caches all ads anyway, and i lose bandwidth (the
only reason i use Junkbuster, so i don't need to waster my bandwidth on
these ads.

So I want to set Junkbuster and Squid this way (if it's possible):
Browser ---> Squid ----> Junkbuster ------> WWW
This way Junkbuster will filter out all ads, and then Squid will cache
all the rest.
Is it possible to do it?
Please tell me how.

Thanx in advance guys :-)

Are you using any OSS or OSS free drivers? They time out. I doesn't
really look like you are from the lsmod. Have you recompiled the kernel
lately? You could have replaced/removed your modules by accident. Maybe a
courrupt filesystem from a dirty shutdown is the culprit. Have you tried
replacing the sound-slot 0?
