I've tried Partition Magic, and it worked fine. Great also
for resizing your partitions when you realize you need more
space for some of them.

I knew someone that had this problem and it turned out to be
interference getting to the monitor.
I know this sounds crazy, but he took a piece of carboard
and wrapped it with aluminum foil and put it between the
monitor (or the tower, I can't remember) and the
interference (had to hunt for the best place).
The foil acted as a shield and stopped the shaking.
I know it sounds kinda goofy, but it just might work.

: Isn't that what Mandrake is?
Well, not exactly. There are a few differences. 1) The recompiled RPMS
are the actual Red Hat packages, not Mandrake tweaked ones. 2) They're
compiled with gcc 2.95 (I upgraded yesterday), not pgcc-1.1.3. I don't
really trust pgcc, especially if they actually used the pgcc-specific
optimizations (-O3+). Gcc's c++ works bad enough as it is. :)

Dear All,
I would like to use the commands dos2unix and unix2dos and what I
understand is that I will need to install the package recode. I am using
RedHat 5.1. I searched the RedHat packages on the nearest full mirror
ftp site, but I could not find it. Can anyone direct me where I can get
it? TIA

I am a bit confused about your description of the printer.
Is the printer a postscript printer? If so,
run printtool and check the filter set up. You should
have it set as a postscript printer and choose the
resolution to be 600X600. I have an HP 5MP, and it works
fine.
If it is not a postscript printer, and you are using Ghostscript
to print postscript, then you can still select 600X600
resolution in the printer filter for HP laser 4/5/6 series.
Perhaps you also have to do something with ghostscript.

Subject: Need X-Windows help (resolution size)
Date: Fri, 6 Aug 1999 10:00:19 -0600
Well, I've had about 4days of experience after installing LINUX on my P300
at home (now a dual boot w/ Win98)
I've put about four hours into just trying to get X-Windows working. We're
talking about Redhat 6.0 and Gnome/KDE
Here's the problem....
X-Windows starts all big and blocky like the resolution is set really low
(640x480). I cant get to any of the menus or window-controls...so I cant
seem to find the control panel to switch resolutions. Someone suggested
CTRL-ALT- plus/minus to change resolutions, but that doesnt do anything. A
friend showed me how to use VI to edit my XF86config file, but I must not be
doing it right because it still looks messed up. I cant believe I've put
this much time into just trying to simply change my resolution. My video
card is a Diamond Viper 770 (detected during setup)....During setup I chose
the following for video choices.....
8bit 1024X768 24bit-800x600 32bit 640x480
Can anyone lay down some really simple instructions for me.....
Many Thanks....--jason

This was his problem. Using the full command in this
form does not consult /etc/fstab where the user information
is kept. But
mount /mnt/cdrom
or

works.

I asked the same question in a RedHat mailing list. I still haven't
gotten it to work and the settings should be hardware set now. So I
still suspect that driver is broken, but here's the reply i got:
From: "Jose M. Sanchez" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 06/28/99 21:57
Subject: Re: Aztech Sound Galaxy Washington 16 driver broken?
You have to be careful here...
To begin with these cards have two "modes" of operation.
1) At boot time the OS (or using the supplied config.sys DOS driver)
sets
the operating parameters for the card. That is everything about it is
unconfigured until this is done...
2) The EEPROM settings are enabled. This must be set to "remember" the
configuration from boot to boot. In this case the onboard EEPROM retains
the
intended card settings. In most cases this is NOT the default for these
cards, and must be set by physical jumpers on the board.
Once done, you can run the DOS configuration software to set the I/O,
Emulation, etc., modes of the board. They will thereafter apply even
thru
powerdowns...
You need to set the latter for Linux.
---
Now if you are passing the MPU parameter to the board via the board's
driver, NOT the MPU401 module, the card MUST have the MPU port enabled
in
EEPROM.
If you are trying to set the I/O using the MPU401 MODULE, this may or
may
not work, because it might be looking for an actual MPU UART...
(originally
a 6502, or 6809 "configured" to handle I/O)
If it doesn't work one way try the other.
I have been able to get these boards to work, just fine under Linux, but
it's been a year or so since I've used one.

Perhaps, the number that hylafax has dialed, is engaged??
Do you have two modems possibly plugged into one phone line?
