I have been thru much the same process, and I am very new to Linux. To date I
have downloaded and installed nearly every Linux-ICQ client I could find. Here
are a few: ICQjava, Licq, ICQnix, Micq,Gtkicq.
I am running RedHat 6.0 Intel tri-boot system (NT,98,Linux). Here are the
basic steps that all installations follow:
Run ./configure
Run make
Run make install
All of these steps run without a problem. No errors, no warnings, no clues
(that I am aware of). When the make is complete I have NO executable to run.
I have done a locate, find and nothing.
If anyone has any ideas - I'm open for suggestions. Please reply to group only.
thanx,

Well, for the average I'm 17 by 11 days(just turned). I've dabbled in Linux for 5
years now, since '94. My first computer was one of those TI keypads that hooked up
to a TV, had a cassette drive and used some sort of Naval flag BASIC. Then there
was the Tandy 1000 on which I learned DOS and QBASIC. Windows 3.1 on a custom made
25mhz IBM compatible. Had that for 3-4 yrs and ran more than I should have. Now I
have a Pentium 200 which will be going on 4yrs old on which I've had Linux
dual-booting with Win95. I've used MacOS, QNX, Linux, Win 3.1, 95, 98. My favorite
is obviously Linux. Hopefully soon my eight Sun SPARCstation LXs will arrive which
will be running Solaris 7 which I might change to Extreme Linux and run as a
400mhz cluster! That should be fun. Also trying to learn F, but I don't know. Pax!

Yeah, you can link to a mdb file with linux.... on a win95 PC as a client.
Why would you want to use a 500KB file to store 1K of ASCII text, anyway? If you
export data as comma-delimited ASCII text and then use the "import data infile"
commands of MySQL, you can import data from Access to MySQL....
Here's my advice... convert to SQL server.... if you insist on using
MS-Propietary formats you will be writing a new database driver.

Did you (and others with this problem) try applying any of the
updates to Mandrake 6? The updates page notes that
\begin{quote}
Some users can experience a "busy partition" message at shutdown time.
Solution: upgrade to initscripts-4.16-30mdk.i586.rpm and to
kernel-2.2.9-27mdk.i586.rpm. An updated initscripts package is also
available:
rpm -Uvh initscripts-4.16-30mdk.i586.rpm
rpm -ivh kernel-2.2.9-27mdk.i586.rpm
\end{quote}
Perhaps your problem is related?
In any case, it's worth a try.

What kernel version are you using? I believe that kernels before 2.0.35
don't have FAT32 support, i.e. Win98.

Has anyone else noticed that lpc as shipped with Mandrake 6.0
segfaults? You get the lpc prompt after starting lpc, then
trying to execute any command (including "help"!)
from the prompt gives a segfault.
I have seen this on clean installs on two different machines,
one a Celeron 333 based system and another a K6-300 based system.
Both machines have LaserJet 1100's attached (using "Laserjet 4/5/6"
during printer setup) to /dev/lp0.
How about lpc under RH 6.0?
I'm wondering if the changes associated with parallel port support
in the 2.0->2.2 changeover have broken lpc.
Comments or suggestions...? (An email cc would be appreciated.)

Hello, everybody.
Please tell me about Parallel port access.
I made parallel port access program. When ueser is root, I
can successfully read and write binary to parallel port.
But when ueser is not root, ``Segmentation Fault'' occur at
inb/outb function. Tell me how to change this program's
permission ? Or, do I have to do another action ?
-- My program's abstract is following...
1) include header file ``asm.h''
2) get 3 ports permission from base address of available
parallel port by permio().
3) read by inb(), or write by outb().
(root is local Linux machine's root, and other users are
NIS account which are administered by Solaris NIS server.)

After you complete the 'make' step, you should get an executable. The 'make
install' just copies the executable (and maybe some man pages) to the default dir
on your hard drive (usually /usr/local/bin or something like that). If you can't
scroll back up in your xterm window to see what got copied where, run this
command:
find / -name kicq -print
to search your hard drive for files named 'kicq' after your make install is
complete.
I use Licq at work all the time and it works great.

You can delete the dir name with a space in it by enclosing the dir name in
single quotes - like: rm -r 'dir name' . Midnight Commander (mc) can also
remove the dir.

ln -s /data/home /home
So, the user's home directory will point to the new location

But I get a error messages

You don't have permission to access /~jack on this server.
How can I fix the problem, or can I use the symbol link in Apache?

Can anyone explain this?
Whenever I load RedHat Linux 6.0 loads and i log out and restart my system
with either Win NT or 98, all my partitions except for the linux partition
become corrupt. NT won't load till VGA SERVER mode is used first as it
doesn't recognize the fat16 drive. Files on the NTFS drive become corrupt
but only in certain directories. That i can handle, but on the FAT32 drive,
random files with random names become into existence for no apparent reason.
Files with names like *@%(11354vI~*446.L with a size of 26Gigs.
Sometimes 98 won't even pick up the FAT32 drive at all and when booted into
NT, NT sees an unpartitioned space and I can create the partition again
without losing data integrity, but is a bother.
Has anyone had this problem before? Can anyone solve it? All comments or
suggestions are welcome.

Try putting quotes around the name of the file. THat normally allows
one to work with files that have spaces in their name.
