Just a short note about this. I did this and it removed the messages about
the "not found". However, I use slrnpull to "pull" the articles from various
newsgroups down to my PC for later reading with slrn. I noticed shortly after
adding the above to my conf.modules, that slrnpull would often "hang". It
would just be doing "nothing" and my ppp connection would time out. Then
slrnpull would time out and I'd not get all the articles. This drove me
even crazier that I am normally <grin>. Then I remembered to ask THE QUESTION:
"What changed?". I then removed those lines from my conf.modules and slrnpull
works OK. Everything else works OK as well. So I don't really know what those
programs are supposed to do. Well, I guess that they save bandwidth by doing
a compress/decompress.
I just thought that I should point this out. Of course, this may be due
to a problem with my news server (Prodigy).

The part where you dereference the null pointer. There is a difference between
a strictly conforming program and one that compiles without diagnostics. :)
However, that difference is often only theoretical; your real point seems to be
that the language doesn't have an inherent mechanism for statically checking
this case. One has to rely on careful verification and the application of
tools.
It would appear that in practice, a const-qualified pointer is about
as safe as a reference.

Close, but no cigar. Microsoft sold XENIX to SCO. SCO realised that
Microsoft could easily reenter the market and wipe them out. As a
result, the language was made very comprehensive. Microsoft was
desparate to get Windows to Market before Mac took over the desktops,
and he figured that UNIX was a clunky text-only format that was going
nowhere. If he had know what was happening at the X consortium with
project Athena, he probably never would have sold. Xerox/PARC was so
upset with Apple and Microsoft that they had contributed much of the
engineering and software technology to Athena. By the time Gates made
it to his car after signing the contract, IBM, HP, Sun, AT&T and several
others purchased the outstanding stock in a way that guaranteed that
Gates could never buy his way out of the contract.
When Windows 3.1 came out and was being ignored due to intense interest
in Sun's new IPC, Gates had that familiar sinking feeling, that same
feeling he had when he watched the Apple II steal the show from the
MITS Altair. Later that day, Gates announced NT, which was supposed to
be a "Better UNIX than UNIX". This was at least the second time Bill
Gates had announced an Operating System that didn't even exist.
Later, it became obvious that Gates had no idea what NT would be when he
announced it. When DEC started laying off it's VMS employees, Microsoft
picked them up. Later DEC and Microsoft worked out a deal (which
Microsoft eventually nullified). DEC gave Microsoft the VMS kernel.
In exchange, Microsoft was supposed to push OEMs to the Alpha chip.
Unfortunately, due to Latency problems in both the kernel and the
support libraries, NT didn't perform significantly faster on an Alpha,
and backward compatibility wasn't possible. NT couldn't do UNIX
compatibility (Posix 1 was OK but not Posix 3). The Alpha couldn't
do Windows 3.1 compatibility, and OEMs were demanding support for their
RISC chips such as the PPC and MIPS.
Ironically, it was Linux that made Alpha a hot seller. Alpha boards
with PCI backplanes made it possible to port Linux drivers directly
from Intel to Alpha. Ironically, this actually created a bigger market
for Intel's bus controller chips. When Linux hit the "big time", with
the special effects for Titanic, it was on Alpha processors.
Compaq wants to keep Alpha in the game, and with IBM, HP, and
Corel/Dell providing cash funding for ports to PPC, PA-RISC, and
StrongARM chips, Compaq couldn't afford to stay out of the Linux
market.

You hav e to add a default route at the client. Do t his using
'route add default gw xxxx eth0' where xxxx is your server IP.
Do a man route for detailed explanation.

If it's just for home use, I suggets you use Leafnode.
Installing the RPM is pretty much all you need to do to get
it installed, although you have to read the documents
that come with to find out how to actually *use* the thing.
Good luck,
Stephan

I get the error in my logs:
...pppd[...] : disconnect script failed
Is this referring to my /etc/ppp/options file : (default options file)
# Run the executable or shell command specified after pppd has
# terminated the link. This script could, for example, issue commands
# to the modem to cause it to hang up if hardware modem control signals
# were not available. ath0 terminates the connection.
disconnect "chat -- \d+++\d\c OK ath0 OK"
Any help appreciated,
Kurt

The detection of cache and processor type is really not important.
Not even half as important as the use of processor's internal cache.
Try using both internal and external cache, and in any case, use
the configuration that works better (faster) rather than the one
that reports the right CPU's.

Exactly what could be expected. Internal cache works with full
processor speed, while with a 100 MHz bus speed, the external one
gives you very little speedup (if any).

Hello all.
When checking my ext2 file system e2fsck tells me the following:
ext2fs_read_inode: A block group is missing an inode table while reading

I fails to repair my file system.
With debugfs I couldn't find this inode.
Any suggestions what to try next?
